tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I had noticed that Day and someone (Johnson?) else had paid an at-home visit yesterday and that UFM wasn't with him. While I understand that Day needs to show everyone he'll be the guy who is head coach in about a month, having Meyer with him to sell Day to the recruits who had committed just to play for Meyer could be huge. "Hey, I know you wanted to play under me, but trust me, Coach Day is going to be just as good, if not better."

They made it clear during the announcement that Meyer would not be on the road visiting recruits, but would be at tOSU through the Rose Bowl to meet with recruits that came to campus. I like this because it says that Day is the man and Meyer has turned the reigns over to him and supports him.

Correct. Technically, Ryan Day is considered the Head Coach now, at least in regards to recruiting. I'm not sure Urban is allowed on the in-home visits as a result of that.

exactly. like the scene in the Godfather when Vito says speak to Michael. He’s the head of the family now.

With early signing day coming up fast I am surprised the "numbers game" hasn't become a topic of conversation.

Taking Bosa off the roster I have us at 82 not counting Saunders (who is not locked in to a schollie).

We have 8 seniors which gives us 11 ships not counting early departures.

The incoming class stands at 16 (not counting O'Shaugnessy).

I don't like to speculate about early departures by name, but I could see at least 3. And there are always transfers and career ending injuries.

What makes this class interesting is that the recent coaching change gives existing commits a short window in which to reevaluate their options (and no matter what they say I am sure most of them are at least giving it some thought).

Most of the new names that are popping up are in the 3 star range and we don't seem to be the favorite for many - if any - of the top 200.

Haven't seen a comprehensive projection for a while but I anticipate a different kind of signing day with more negative than positive surprises.

Still, given the pedigree of the kids on our roster I would be perfectly fine with a smallish class and minimizing losses.

All that, and with 7 fewer commits than Michigan they are rated below us.

Yeah, I was thinking about numbers as well. Frankly, I've been so busy with life this year that I've not really paid a ton of attention to this class... well, relative to other years that is. Frankly, I didn't even realize how small the class was going to be this year. I guess I presumed that it was going to be pretty good size given the number of 5-year guys at WR and projected that out to the other positions... Guess I should have looked.

Such a small class bodes well for experience coming back I guess. And if there was going to be a class where any coaching change could have hosed up, I guess I'd prefer a small one... but thankfully, it looks like that's not an issue. Hope we keep Nester in the boat. Things looking not-so-dismal for Harrison... Could be a really solid class for sure. Nice to see some boys with Special Powers jump in lately as well.

So... BP Recruiting team? What say you? Time to get out your nifty different color fonts and make your predictions?

This young man would swing the Buckeyes' class from mediocre to distinctly above average.

That said, I trust he'll ignore my wishes and those of all other fans (Buckeye and otherwise) and decide as he feels best for himself and his family.

Expectations are on another level since UFM took the reigns. Hardly mediocre, with or without Harrison. With Harrison, and not losing anyone, I think we’re looking at a top 10 class in an off year.

Guys like Wilson, Stover, Miller, Crowley, Battle, Mathis and Potter are some of the best at their positions in the country. Harrison would certainly help with the rankings.
