tOSU Recruiting Discussion

He has handled it like this from the beginning, but if you think from the beginning that you might want to go out of state, it seems like a wise way to handle the recruitment. I just think it looks unlikely that we get him and the quiet announcement did nothing to make me change that. Sorry if that should have been in the yearly discussion rather than trying to read tea leaves in the recruits thread itself.
It just got caught up with the other split of "how can I be different today" content. I think this was less off topic.

It’s absolutely consistent with the way he’s handled his recruitment. It also happens to be consistent (hopefully coincidentally) with how an Ohio recruit should handle leaving the state. Low key.
Different sport but I almost fell for the same thing with Romeo Langford here in Indiana. Kid is super quiet, there were definite buyers out of state (take that how you want with college bball) and he seemed to want to sneak away to avoid the crazies of southern Indiana.

He picked the homestate/town team still. Some kids are like that.

I honestly think his recruitment just follows Zach's demeanor. He is quiet and he is approaching this like a business decision, not a blind fanboy or a vocal recruit that loves the spotlight and "receiving the love" from every school. Many of us on here get annoyed with those recruits, yet get upset when an instate star like Harrison actually takes a grounded approach. I think Harrison would treat his recruitment like this regardless of where he is going.

so from the looks of it we’ve got 2 solid OL commits, 1 soft, 1 solid DB and 1 pretty much gone...

I hate to ask this but does anyone have a shot in the dark how we finish up this class? or does the safe wait and see who DIDN’T commit early and start charging hard after that?

Everything becomes much more clear on the 19th. Anyone who doesn’t sign, shouldn’t be considered solid IMO. To me, anyone remaining a verbal will be kind of like a kid from FL who verbals early, it only means you may be the leader.

Any senior across the board who doesn’t sign should be considered fair game to me. Everyone has a shot. So, what’s interesting is not only who signs with your school and who doesn’t but, also, recruits that suddenly become “available” who didn’t sign with their top school. That’s how I see it anyway.

Battle is gone. Alabama will get a good one.

Nester will check out some other schools in January. I'll say that he sticks with Ohio State in the end.

Michael O'Shaughnessy (the punter from New Albany) was supposed to greyshirt. Will that change if there are scholarships available? Probably not.

I think that the 14 other current commitments (Chambers, Crowley, Eichenberg, Hamilton, Hickman, Jacoby, Mathis, Miller, Potter, Shaw, Stover, Williams, Wilson, and Young) will sign with Ohio State.

I believe (gut feeling more than hard evidence) that Zach Harrison will sign with Ohio State. I reserve the right to change my mind.

The remaining realistic targets:

DT Jaden McKenzie (NC) - it looks like he will be in this class.

OL Nick Broeker (IL) - currently committed to Ole Miss, all of the recent CB activity favors Ohio State. How does Meyer's resignation factor here? Can't call this one yet.

OL J.D. Duplain (Strongsville) - The Buckeyes got some late CB momentum, but I just don't see him signing with Ohio State.

DT Cavon Butler (Toledo Whitmer) - still committed to Kentucky. CB's are Ohio State (50%) or cloudy (50%). Grades are a factor here. I'd guess that he's "out".

DT Jared Harrison-Hunte (NY) - looks like a future Nittany Lion

DT D'Von Ellies (MD) - see above

LB Jestin Jacobs (Clayton Northmont) - Ohio State tried for a late flip, but he will be signing with Iowa.

DB Renardo Green (FL) - is still listed as a Florida State commitment. Was 100% CB'ed to Ohio State after a late OV. Visits FSU this weekend. Pretty cloudy right now.

ATH Peyton Powell (TX) - was all Ohio State, then all Oklahoma, then all Texas. Now it looks like Baylor will actually sign him.

I suppose that some new names will arise after the early signing period, but I'm not even going to begin to guess who those names might be. I imagine that the staff won't waste a lot of time chasing late signees, but will rather focus on the potentially monstrous 2020 class.

I'm interested in who we target from the pool who doesn't sign next week.

I'm guessing there are names that have never crossed out lips.

Most of the top prospects will sign early.
But there has to be Chris Olave types, we have to find them.

We really need to add a CB and possibly an OT.

I'd almost echo what LJB said entirely. Battle is gone and as I said in his thread, I think he was gone regardless of UFM. Nester is looking, but we have the continuity and I think we keep him. I think we get Harrison, I've felt that way all along and nothing has changed that...I actually think Day has a better chance with Urban leaving. I have McKenzie "in" and frankly, he was my favorite of all the realistic DTs on the board (the ones LJB listed), severely underrated. Broeker is trending nicely and I would love to have him in, think he is a Buckeye. I have Renardo Green going elsewhere, but we're definitely in the mix and landing him would be huge, we need another corner...the Urban factor is stronger here imo. I'll go out on a limb and predict Jacobs flips to OSU, no inside info though. We'll get at least one surprise commit not on the immediate radar. Maybe an optimistic outlook, but not undoable imo.
