2020 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Some unexpected names on Kurelic's list, including WR Rashawn Williams, OL Kevin Pyne, and CB R.J. Mickens. Personally, I wouldn't put money on any of the those three ending up at Ohio State, but it's still early....

Huge Recruiting Weekend on Tap for OSU, Highlighted by Pair of 5-Star Visitors

Mekhail-Sherman.jpg

Recruiting never sleeps at Ohio State and this weekend is further proof of that. The Buckeyes will be hosting a number of the nation’s top 2020 recruits for unofficial visits, including 5-star prospects Elias Ricks and Mekhail Sherman.

Ricks (6-2 180) is out of Santa Ana, California and is the No. 18 prospect in the nation and the No. 2 cornerback in the class according to the 247Sports Composite. Currently, the Buckeyes own just one of his Crystal Ball predictions, while USC holds the other nine. He is planning to be on campus Saturday.

Ohio State is also recruiting a number of other top cornerbacks in the 2020 class, including Kelee Ringo (No. 1), Fred Davis (No. 4), R.J. Mickens (No. 5), and Miles Brooks (No. 16). Brooks and Mickens have both already been on campus.

The other 5-star prospect at OSU this weekend — Mekhail Sherman (6-3 234) — is the No. 2 outside linebacker in the class and the No. 17 player overall. He attends St. John’s College High School in Washington DC. He is the teammate of a pair of other Buckeye targets in defensive tackle Tre Williams and wide receiver Rakim Jarrett.

Jarrett (6-0 182) will be on campus as well. He is the No. 9 receiver in the nation and the No. 45 player overall. All 10 predictions on his Crystal Ball have picked him to end up at Ohio State.

The firing of former OSU receivers coach Zach Smith will not negatively impact the Buckeyes where Jarrett is concerned.

Ohio State is also hosting a pair of 2020 Michigan wide receivers in Rashawn Williams and Devell Washington. Williams (6-1 185) is the No. 21 receiver in the nation per the 247Sports Composite. Rivals ranks him as their No. 4 receiver and No. 23 player overall. Ohio State, Michigan, and Michigan State are his biggest offers to date.

Washington (6-4 200) earned an Ohio State offer during camp season. He is ranked the No. 80 receiver in the nation, but the Buckeye coaches liked him just fine when they worked him out.

Hosting all three receivers will give the Buckeyes an opportunity to get interim receivers coach Brian Hartline face to face with players he would love to end up coaching in two years.

Also visiting on Friday is Ohio’s No. 4 player, DeaMonte Trayanum, a 4-star outside linebacker from Akron Hoban. Trayanum (5-11 215) is an undersized linebacker (No. 15 OLB), but already holds on Ohio State offer. He is scheduled to visit Clemson following his OSU visit. Last season he finished with 150 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 14 sacks. He is also a talented running back.

Man, huge weekend indeed. In particular, hope to make some big ins with the DC guys, I want all 3 prospects from St. John's (Sherman, Williams and Jarrett). Locking down Jarrett early could definitely go a long ways with that. Also hoping to jump in the lead for Ricks...there is no doubt he really likes OSU, but will be a very tough pull from USC...but there is certainly a shot for us to steal one away there.

This would be a major LJsr special to pull off getting these 3. And even bigger to get inroads in this powerhouse HS.

THE HURRY UP: OFFENSIVE TACKLE JONATHAN ALLEN SETS ANOTHER VISIT WHILE WIDE RECEIVER A.J. HENNING HOPES TO RETURN THIS FALL

OFF TO A GREAT START

Rivals released its latest batch of rankings for the Class of 2020 on Wednesday afternoon, and five of Ohio State’s six commitments made the Rivals250.

That includes:
  • No. 18 (-4): Cincinnati St. Xavier four-star Paris Johnson Jr.
  • No. 48 (-14): Arizona four-star quarterback Jack Miller III
  • No. 90 (NR): New Jersey four-star offensive guard Luke Wypler
  • No. 130 (-29): IMG Academy four-star cornerback Lejond Cavazos
  • No. 250 (-7): Georgia four-star offensive tackle Jake Wray
Arizona four-star running back and Akron native Darvon Hubbard was not ranked among the Rivals250, though 247Sports — not to be confused with the 247Sports Composite Rankings — had him in their Top247 last week. All six combine to give the Buckeyes the nation’s third-best recruiting class, trailing top-ranked Miami (12 pledges) and second-place Alabama (7).

Other notable targets to make the Rivals250 include:
  • No. 2 - Texas five-star running back Zachary Evans
  • No. 4 - Maryland five-star defensive end Bryan Bresee
  • No. 5 - Washington five-star defensive end Sav’ell Smalls
  • No. 6 - California five-star cornerback Elias Ricks
  • No. 9 - Washington D.C. five-star linebacker Mekhail Sherman
  • No. 15 - Michigan five-star offensive guard Justin Rogers
  • No. 19 - California four-star running back Kendall Milton
  • No. 24 - Michigan four-star wide receiver Rashawn Williams
  • No. 25 - Pennsylvania four-star wide receiver Julian Fleming
  • No. 28 - New Jersey four-star athlete Jalen Berger
  • No. 30 - Texas four-star cornerback R.J. Mickens
  • No. 37 - Cincinnati Princeton four-star defensive end Darrion Henry
  • No. 50 - Florida four-star running back Demarkcus Bowman
  • No. 57 - Florida four-star cornerback Miles Brooks

  • No. 62 - Washington D.C. four-star wide receiver Rakim Jarrett
  • No. 68 - Illinois four-star wide receiver A.J. Henning
  • No. 84 - Florida four-star linebacker Derek Wingo
  • No. 86 - Miami four-star athlete commit Henry Gray
  • No. 87 - Kansas four-star offensive tackle Turner Corcoran
  • No. 125 - North Carolina four-star defensive end Jacolbe Cowan
  • No. 147 - Dublin Coffman four-star running back Michael Drennen II
