2020 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I believe those two ships have sailed far away.
From what I've seen from Teague (whom we have for at least this and next season) and Crowley and Steele (both of whom we have for at least three seasons), I think we'll be just fine if won't don't take a back this class. Once recruits see that our so-called "pass-driven" offense actually features the tailback, the negative recruiting along those lines will no longer work.

Ditto. We'll get at least 1 RB in this class I think, but I love what I see from our young backs, so I'm not concerned at all.

I think we have the proverbial "pair and a spare" on the roster for next season. Always good for another for depth or a can't miss guy but I'd rather the staff not reach out of desperation. The QB depth has more depth than I originally thought, however, the skills are way different from starter to bench so they need enough skill to perform the entire playbook. I believe that's what killed us last year even though by end of season Haskins was totally unstoppable.

Day is working his system and it's evident. Would we rather have hit on one of those elite backs? Absolutely but Ohio State should never reach. If you truly reload, you shine up the bullets in the next clip and shoot the opponent in the forehead.

Ill go against the grain on QB recruiting.
The transfer portal is here to stay, and QBs will be in it all the time - including our own recruits.
I think Fields will be rare, but so will being able to hold onto Burrow, Baldwin, Tate as backups.
The landscape has drastically changed since Guiton or winning an NC with 3rd string.
Hoak, Chugunov will be the type of backups we get (excepting a QB-in-waiting last 1-2 seasons of current guy).
The benefit of taking 2 is developing both and probably holding onto the best. But this also includes the 2021 class.
A 2021 guy probably isnt staying around if a 2020 guy is QB for 3 years.
In the modern setup, QB recruiting never stops... even after NLOID... everyone will need transfers. QB is the most transfer prone position by a wide margin.

I'm in full agreement. No team will be immune to the transfer portal, especially at the QB position. Just pray if you're an elite team, that your coaching staff can choose the right QB wisely, because he will only have him as a primary QB while hes there, and have to load up the rest of the room with guys who are alright with knowing that they will only hold the clipboard or play in blowouts. Clemson just had a mass exodus of kids once it was obvious that Lawrence was their guy, so it shows that if you find a kid early, you may chase off kids for the near future as well(yes, they got the kid from CA in 2020, but he will be a Soph by the time Lawrence is gone)
