2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

"you gotta be as honest as you've ever been in recruiting". I listen to that and wonder, has anything really changed?

depends. I’d be curious to see a survey conducted but it seems like substantive relationships matter to an increased degree; either that, or it’s just being conveyed on a larger scale via social media.

Other than that I don’t know

BETTER THAN BAMA? Alabama pulled in the highest-rated recruiting class of all time this year, which is damn near impossible to compete with. But a few anonymous recruiting analysts told my pal Ari Wasserman that they think Ohio State's recruiting class could be even better.

Analyst 1: Ohio State is just a crazy class. It has so many No. 1 guys at their position, and I enjoyed seeing how it took shape because they had a chance at a lot of top-ranked running backs and zeroed in on the ones they wanted and got those guys. The same thing with the quarterback board with Kyle McCord, and that was the guy they wanted. Seeing it all play out was very, very interesting. It’s really hard not to love Ohio State’s class.

...

Analyst 5: Alabama is the easy answer. I would say Ohio State is probably the one that I like, a little bit more, just because, like Bama, they’re recruiting at such a high level that they’re almost to the point where they’re not recruiting, they’re just evaluating. I like Ohio State’s because they are so spread out. You got elite receivers, elite backs, solid quarterback, elite linemen. I mean, like Bama’s, it’s got needs filled at pretty much every spot, you need to have a spot field. So I’ll change it up a little bit and say the Buckeyes.

Jackson Kuwatch is latest to say he is headed to Ohio State as walk-on

The latest walk-on the Ohio State staff has added to the program is linebacker Jackson Kuwatch from West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West. Kuwatch is a 6-foot-4 and 220-pound aggressive outside linebacker. Kuwatch was teammates this past season with two Ohio State class of 2022 commitments, 4-star offensive lineman Tegra Tshabola and 4-star cornerback Jyaire Brown.

Check out Kuwatch in his senior season highlight video.

Buckeyes add walk-on wide receiver

It was a pretty busy weekend for Ryan Day, Brian Hartline, and the OSU coaching staff. Ohio State didn’t just add a pledge from Kyion Grayes on Sunday. Just a couple days before the Buckeyes also landed a commitment from walk-on wide out Reis Stocksdale (Morrow, OH/Little Miami) on Friday evening.

Deciding to call Columbus his future stomping grounds, a lot played a part in the Little Miami (OH) senior selecting to suit up for the Buckeyes over opportunities to play on the college level at programs such as Butler, Dayton, Valparaiso, Lake Erie College, and Concordia.

Stockdale, who hauled in 38 receptions as a senior for nearly 900 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns, adds another solid walk-on addition to the Buckeyes roster. Landing numerous pledges from legacy and other under-the-radar standouts, he joins tight end Zak Herbstreit, offensive lineman Toby Wilson, athlete Cayden Saunders, long snapper Mason Arnold, and linebacker Jackson Kuwatch in the Buckeyes 2021 walk-on class.

that's high praise saying you like this OSU class more than the highest rated class we have ever seen on paper. Can't wait to watch them develop and to see this great era of OSU football continue.

I had been going at it with some Bama fans on twitter, debating why OSU's class was better at certain positions. One could argue that they got better players at positions of bigger need, which in turn sets this class up to be more impactful

GOOD TRY, GOOD EFFORT. When one school holds commitments from two top-100 players at running back, playing them against each other to try to get one of them to flip would seem like a solid strategy on the surface.

But in TreVeyon Henderson and Evan Pryor's case, there was a small problem...

Looking at you, Lincoln Riley.

This is also a tough look for that weird Oklahoma insider that claimed for months that like half of Ohio State's 2021 recruiting class would be flipping to Oklahoma, led by Henderson. Hilariously, the only flip we saw between those two schools was when Jantzen Dunn was committed to Oklahoma for less than an hour before flipping to the Buckeyes.

I actually like our options... we get Pope back for the fall who has played a lot and we still have many others too. Hopefully we can get Melton back too.

Not to mention that if we really are going to use a 4-2-5 defense more often, the need for LBs decreases. Especially since we go 2-3 deep at the Bullet, if that's going to considered a DB position.

Agree. HTT always felt like a luxury that you don’t say no to because of his talent but adding a LB just to add one doesn’t feel like a necessity.

100%, I would have loved to have him on board, but not really sure he's any better than Mitchell, Gant, and/or Pope... maybe he is, but the difference is negligible if so imo. And as everyone else pointed out, we'll probably be in a 2 LB set quite often and I think Kourt Williams and Young could be out there often at Bullet. We'll more than manage and the 2022 LB class is going to be ridiculous.
