2023 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

High confidence in Bonsu, 50/50 on adding a DE, almost nothing on the OTs which means almost certainly a “no” right now for either.

After Bonsu, it seems like Keeley might be the best bet—especially if he takes an official (obviously).

Matayo’s dad is a likely barrier to him being in the class—his heavy involvement seems a little too much to be a culture fit, but who knows, Ohio State has had active dads recently like Gee Scott Sr. But there is positive heavy involvement and there is drama heavy involvement, and everyone can make their own judgement about where this one falls. It’s also just hard in general to recruit the west coast, particularly against a resurgent USC that’s willing to be aggressive with up front NIL offers.

Umeozulu is not a take right now, with LJ reportedly the only one pushing for him on the staff—and with LJ’s impending exit from the program (rumored semi retirement with a consulting role following the expanded coaching rules) his solo opinion seemingly isn’t going to sway anyone else on that status.

So it’s probably more like 1.5 right now with hopes that maybe they can get more involved with Okunlola if they feel like it.

Ouch. I thought I would be labeled as the debbie-downer suggesting only 2.5. I was affraid to go lower..... but I only see a possible 2 as well with Bonsu being the best bet and a DE, maybe?

Wish we were in on a few more outside body-types on the OL at this stage with such a position of need going into next year.

It's funny than Miami fans are worried that this is in reference to Samson "Pancake Honcho" Okunla! He hasn't even visited OSU, and Miami has been firmly in the lead for a while. I would love to land him, but not sure if the tweets are in reference to him
I was literally just looking at the responses and quotes and they are in a tizzy. While I'd certainly take him, didn't feel right to me either.

MCDONALD PLANS TO VISIT OSU IN SEPTEMBER
After Ohio State missed out on defensive tackle John Walker, the need remains for the Buckeyes to add a true defensive tackle to the 2023 class. They could be pivoting to four-star Georgia defensive tackle Kayden McDonald.

McDonald, who visited Columbus last season for the Penn State game, told 247Sports he’d likely be taking an official visit to Ohio State sometime in September.

“I’m going to take Ohio State and Georgia (visits) probably in September,” McDonald told 247Sports. “I really like how different coaches around the country say coach (Larry) Johnson is a mentor. So that speaks volumes for coach Johnson the impact he has on college football. He produces defensive linemen. Coach (Ryan) Day, he’s a great coach, a players coach. He cares for his players. That’s what I really like about him.”
