2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Ohio quarterback Ryan Montgomery was the first signal-caller Ohio State offered in the 2025 class. OSU, which only rarely extends offers to freshman quarterbacks, has not offered another quarterback in that class since, but that could change soon.

One of the fastest-rising signal callers in the 2025 class, Florida prospect Colin Hurley, very well could be the second quarterback Ohio State offers in that cycle. The 6-foot-1, 213-pound Hurley visited Ohio State for the first time on April 8, one day before he earned a Golden Gun Award as a top performer at the Elite 11 Regional in Massillon on April 9.

Sorry for the double post. Missed that the 2025 discussion thread had even been created. :/

Texas WR#1 (and preliminarily Texas #1 overall) for 2025, Dakorien Moore, claims an offer. (This was retweeted by Birm).

To get this type of attention so early, at a school like Duncanville says A LOT! Kids this young rarely stand out at the school that's filled with studs.

Antwann Hill Jr of Houston County (Warner Robins, GA) High School is a 6'4", 210-pounds freshman QB. His cousin Trey Hill played for Georgia before being drafted by the Bengals. Antwann is interested in Ohio State because of Ryan Day's ability to get QBs to the NFL, and he plans to camp at OSU in June. Already has offers from Georgia and Texas A&M.

I don't follow recruiting too closely. Is it normal to offer this many kids who are still in their freshman year of high school?
Kids used to take official visits during their senior year. Some would decide before that (especially QBs), but a lot would decide late.

These days, a huge amount of juniors take official visits in the winter/spring and decide, rather than waiting another 6 months or more.

So just following that natural timetable shift, if you'd normally offer a stud during Oct-Dec of his sophomore year, if you bump that up earlier by 6 months, you're now offering February-June of his freshman year.

Landon Pace has no shortage of connections to Ohio State.

His father, Orlando Pace, is one of the all-time great players in Ohio State history. A two-time unanimous All-American as the Buckeyes’ starting left tackle, Orlando Pace became a scarlet and gray legend while making the word pancake synonymous with a knockdown block.

Landon’s older brother, Jalen Pace, has already followed in his father’s footsteps. Jalen joined the Buckeyes in 2021 as a walk-on linebacker and is entering his second year at Ohio State.

Now, Landon is hoping he’ll get the chance to continue his family’s legacy in Columbus.

Landon Pace
  • HEIGHT 6-2
  • WEIGHT 200
Currently he has offers from West Virginia and BC per 24/7. You have to wonder what his height/weight will be in 2025 (i.e. what position he might grow into).

It’s been a while since Ohio State has signed a scholarship quarterback from an Ohio high school.

The last in-state quarterback to sign with the Buckeyes out of high school was Joe Burrow in 2015. Since then, Ohio State has rarely even pursued in-state quarterbacks. Between the 2016-22 classes, the only quarterbacks from Ohio who received offers from the Buckeyes were Danny Clark (who committed to Ohio State as a high school freshman but eventually decommitted after Tate Martell joined the Buckeyes’ class of 2017) and Drew Allar (who received his offer after Quinn Ewers reclassified out of the 2022 class, at which point Allar was already committed to Penn State).

2025 might be the year Ohio State’s in-state quarterback drought finally ends.
