tOSU Recruiting Whammies

So I guess Hill and Munger are garbage, by the way they are just RS Freshman, but it takes time according to you to develop them. So that means our only 3 guys that could possibly ever play DT should be shown the door because they aren't producing yet.

so how bout we back off the ledge for DT recruiting...

:slappy: this is reminding me of Oline recruiting and Cdiddy70's rants about how we need every Olinemen out there.
You're blind! I could compare it to the offensive line. It would be like the offensive line which has to start 5 guys on every play only having 8-10 people to play offensive line. There's been no talk of the young DT's other than a little bit about Hill when he first came in. What if one of Hill or Munger gets injured, the cupboard is bare after them. If we are so set then why recruit anyone else, those 2 are all americans and will throw every center and gaurd combo back into the QB and we won't need any other defenders. You win with developed talent and depth and it starts with both lines. You need 7-9 DT bodies because not all of them pan out. Just saying we're in trouble if Washington leaves, Carter moves on and Thompson's knee doesn't allow him to play.

Just like entering this season we were in trouble by losing 4 of 5 O line starters, the only returning starter was an underclasmen, guys like Dodson and Underwood weren't producing, Farris wasn't sure if he was a defensive or offensive player, Price, Boren, Elflein All had little playing time since last years starters hardly ever left the field, Baldwin was an unproven Lineman who also wasnt sure if he was a defensive or offensive player. And he we had a number of incoming frosh who fans thought would start or crack the 2 deep since we were in such despair across the O line... Last I checked the O line is a major strength and has led OSU to the NC

Few things...
1) How often do you hear talk of DTs ANYWHERE in the country? not concerned "we haven't heard anything"
2) Schutt, Landers, Bosa, Price... we'll be fine
4) so you wanna devote nearly 10% of the scholarships for JUST DT... I can see where you mighta said DL but 7-9 for JUST DT is a bit much.
5) Carter's gone he's already said he's moving on.
6) OH MY GOODNESS WE LOST BRAXTON MILLER...WE'RE SCREWED ... oh wait..
7) Trust the coaches

Wham inventions:

Fiction: They are casual/lazy about recruiting
Fact: They have gone all out on everyone not named Daniel. They just haven't landed as many as they would have liked.

Fiction: They put their eggs in 1-2 baskets
Fact: They chased Gallimore, Wilkins, Daniel, Landers, Beckner, (Cornell)

Fiction: They landed 2 interior DL in 4 years
Fact: Urban has been recruiting for 3 years and 1 month. In his first "year", he landed Schutt and Washington. Since then he landed Munger, Hill, Landers and is working on another. He probably gets to count one or both of Thompson and Cornell as interior DL someday, but it's too soon to tell. The number is 5 without counting DL/JC or Sprinkle (who is probably a DT but isn't contributing yet).

Fiction: Wilkins could replace an AA DT and be a more athletic version of him next year.
Fact: Wilkins is a stud but is entering the realm of grown freaking men. The chances of him being effective next year are tenuous, because of how difficult that transition is, let alone a replacement for a star.

Fiction: Emotional arguments about things we want jive with what the staff is doing.
Fact: Emotional arguments derail valid criticisms about recruiting.
The only fiction here is you reading my comments closely. I said True stud interior lineman. If you take out the projects and the DE'S it is hill and shutt with shutt being too small to be dominant I also said perfect replacement but did not say he will be as good as Bennett next year but eventually could.be as good if not better. I said he can come in and start next year by the end of the season not because I think he will be better than Bennett right now but because I think he can split time during the season and eventually could win the starting position by the end of the season. Could not= will. I believe this because I think he could.beat out shutt and or hill and Washington is gone for sure next season if not this. He would also beat out landers. Honestly did you watch him play against all the other guys this past weekend? Did you hear what the coaches were saying about him?

Casual is not = to lazy. Means not recruiting DL (elite interior DL).like their hair is on fire. I don't know about you but I am enjoying our conversation where you.continue to make bad assumptions and I correct you.

 So you meant kind of lazy, not totally lazy.

Of course that's what you're doing. Everyone seems to be backing you up as well.

Then you wouldn't have Washington at DT. Maybe we should have taken your advice there on signing day 2012.

Care to explain why so many SEC and national teams came after Munger if he's such weak sauce to not even count to you? As for that ending, thanks for adding to the canon.

Whammie: "shutt being too small to be dominant"
Fact: Schutt is the same size as Bennett (both 6'2", Schutt is 7 lbs heavier).
I also said perfect replacement but did not say he will be as good as Bennett next year but eventually could.be as good if not better.
I'm sorry you chose your words poorly and said perfect replacement except quicker, faster and more explosive. Perhaps you should say these things and stop asking us to guess better about what you actually meant to type.

If Wilkins is starting, OSU is in a world of hurt inside.

Yes I watched his stellar play in the game and heard the rave reviews in practice, which is why we all coveted him. I'm also curious with how dominant DL usually are in these settings against raw OL.

I also saw what Mr. Landers did, but to you he's just a mediocre project who can't be used to beat national powerhouses, so there's not much point in discussing him.

Like when they had to move Price, Farris, Hale and Baldwin from the DL? Three of those guys are DTs. Hale was a contributor and Farris would be a pretty useful depth guy. The problem was they probably need him to start on the OL next year. That would make the depth chart look a lot different.

I agree that better depth is needed. I don't think Munger, Cornell, Landers have to be reduced to projects or LJ Sr has to be tagged as "casual" to make that point.

DT's make up 9% of a teams starting 22 players so yes that makes common sense. But that's something you seem to lack. Price is an offensive lineman on this team. Bosa is better off the edge. You hear about player development all the time, but the DT front has been really quiet.

Actually, we heard next to nothing about Cardale's development until we suddenly needed him.
The bowl season is typically the time when guys like Hill, Munger, Smith, Booker and others get a chance to shine at last. This year they had to prepare for a playoff, which threw a big wrench into the "showtime" period where this typically happens.

People that are close to the program like Schutt and expected bigger things from Hill this year. Will that pan out next year? Never? Who knows.

Your comments don't really deserve a reply. But I will reply to you because I am nice. Look it is simple. They have not brought in SEC type interior linemen that dominate the middle and make your DE's that much better and your LB's tasks that much.easier. If they don't address this in 15, they will have to go the juco route very soon.
Holy fucking shit. Have even seen Bosa and Bennett this year? They're only first-team All-Americans. I suppose the staff is to blame for Spence's drug problems, too...
