Game Thread tOSU @ Virginia Tech, Sep 7 2015 @ 8pm ET, ESPN

I go back to those who have suggested we put the plunger talk away. The teams I thought the Bucks would blow out: Navy, Va Teach, Penn State, Michigan they didn't. The teams I thought would be a tough match, Wisconsin, Oregon weren't. This was a team that seemed to me to play to the level of the competition in games I expected them to cruise and then amazed me against teams I thought had equal or better talent. I expect the Bucks to beat Va. Tech, but I don't see a 4 TD difference in the final score.

That is one of the hallmarks of a young team (inconsistency). They got one hell of a lot better as the year went on and are a year older with Urban working on the consistency of effort it will take to repeat all winter, spring and summer. I'll take my chances with Urban properly motivating a team to follow his plan.

It will be easier to win if we put the trophy in the case at the WHAC and come to work..resumes are nice but actions speak volumes.

We don't have a trophy to put in any case, the players do. They are the same guys Urban Meyer has a year to work on the mental/motivational part of the game with in a very controlled environment. I am a blind believer in his powers of motivation at this point.

As far as this game goes, the VT defense loses 5 starters from last year. A DT, 2 LB's and 2 DB's or, looked at another way, 4 new starters in the back 7. On offense they lose 3/5 of their OL. I'm going to go ahead and say VT doesn't reload athletes the way OSU does so this would seem on the surface to be some significant attrition considering we get them in the season opener.

I don't know how much PT the new starters will have under their belt and I don't really care. They could bring back the whole fucking team for all the good it will do them. They aren't playing the same team they played in early September.

Urban Meyer covers spreads, especially when he has had extra time to prepare and, I'm just going to assume this part because I don't have any data to back it up, especially when he has a year to reflect on how badly he and his staff were out-coached by the same opponent.

This is a revenge game and I'll be shocked if revenge isn't exacted.

Navy: Few teams blow out Navy. Although smaller, they are disciplined, strong mentally and physically, and resilient. Not to mention they kill your DL with chop blocks all fucking game. There's a reason why almost every team that played them last year lost the following week (us included).
VT: Perfect storm for VT. New QB, new OL, secondary still raw, and VT QB having the game of his life.
Penn State: Always tough to play at night in Slappy Valley. JT was still relatively inexperienced and got hurt in the game.
Michigan: It's The Game...'nuff said.

So, for this year...

Navy: Don't play.
VT: Experienced QB who won't be phased by the venue. OL that's light year's ahead of a year ago. Secondary that contained the top WR and top QB in the country during the playoffs. I definitely can see this being a 45-17 type win in Blacksburg.
Penn State: Should be a repeat of the 63-14 ape-fucking we gave them in 2013.
Michigan: Only game that somewhat concerns me. It's The Game at the Pig House, and who knows how scum will respond this season under Hairball.

And it's one week after the game with Michigan State, the game most likely to determine the East Division champion.
Hopefully the week of the scum game we will be in a position that even with a loss we still go to the B1G Championship game.

In saying that... I know it's early but what's everyone's prevailing thoughts on this Hokie game? I for one think it'll be a 38-17 type of game. Tech will once again stand tall from time to time on defense but there's no surprising us this year and my WAY too early prediction is we will receive first and we will score on that opening drive.

You'd better go wash your mouth out with soap right now and start praying on the rosary for forgiveness.

I understand the point - we want to be in a position at that point in the season where we aren't under any pressure to win that game. But I hope we're never going to say, "We've already won the Big Ten East - who cares if we lose to Michigan?" No matter the record of either team, I hope Ohio State treats Michigan the way they treated Wisconsin in the BTCG.

oh and certainly I did not mean it like that... besides as this year shows you the end of the season can spring board you into much greater things

Ohio State's response to Harbaugh's first game should be the real cause for fear. This is not a former assistant who knows your playbook and tendencies. It is an Ohio State coach who understands the rivalry. Vt and ttun be warned, hell is coming.

Yeah it's total douchbaggery from the BIG. No way Bama plays LSU and Auburn in consecutive weeks like that. If I recall we have to do it the following year as well. I really hate our conference and the way they schedule. I mean if you want nine games a season fine, but at least let teams benefit, and recover if needed, from a conference loss. No way MSU and tOSU should be playing that late in the season the week before The Game.

Not to mention how douchey it is to have Ohio State, Penn State and the Michigans in one division. I don't see anytime soon when the Big Ten West will have any kind of parity with the East. Anderson taking flight from Wiscy so quickly only further deepens the issue. Media coverage of NLI Day reflected the gap by only paying attention to Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State and a bit to Sparty.
