Game Thread tOSU vs. Sparty, B1G Championship Game, Sat 8 ET on FOX

For those that do not follow MSU football. Envision tOSU from the sweater years with less offensive skill position talent.

Defense:
- can get pressure with front 4 but usually sends a 5th through zone blitz
- corners are extremely good in man to man Dennard (31) is a likely All American corner
- LBs are very good, Allen can fly and is nasty on the blitz

Offense:
Oline is solid
Run game has gotten better every week
Passing game is very suspect, either Qb or WR seem to be off, no go to WR except maybe slot King

Defense tends to get better as the game goes on. Many teams score in the 1st quarter and then as the game goes on the MSU D almost seems to be learning as they go. They can be a bit nasty and safeties will bring the hammer.

I think Miller running will be the difference. Mostly on broken plays. MSU lacks speed at LB outside Allen IMO. Very smart and tough but not burners. Will be interesting to see if they set up a spy on passing downs to keep him in check or if they have a controlled pass rush trying to contain the pocket.

I'm very confident Ohio State wins this game. The Buckeyes have been strong against the run all year & well....we know what Bollman likes to do. Keep Sparty in 3rd & long and then smack the QB in the mouth.

I realize Sparty has a strong D, but I don't think there's a D in the country that can stop the Bucks. Buckeyes win 31-17 and it's off to Pasadena :biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:.

This will be another hard fought game IMHO. MSU is a very solid team. They are a top ten team and I see them running a similar Offense as scUM relying heavily on the screen pass. They will also try to throw downfield but the only problem is that their QB is not nearly as elusive as Gardner who we had 4-5 times in the backfield and he escaped only to make a big play. I don't see that happening with the MSU QB.

I'm not sure that there is a D that can stop our Offense but if there is it is MSU. They will probably put a spy on Braxton but that means that Hyde is going to have a huge game. It also means that play action should work and I hope to see us use the TE a lot in this game. Wilson should also be a weapon out in the flat and on end runs that will be to our advantage.

Here's hoping a a victory in Indy.

GO BUCKS!!

I am extremely nervous about this game. I'm a little worried OSU tries to come out strong to impress the voters and winds up making mistakes. Michigan State's defense is strong, and you all know how suspect our defense has been (even in critical times, like crunch time vs. scUM last Saturday).

We'll see how it plays out. I have faith in Meyer, but it's going to be an anxious week for me.

If they come out trying to impress VOTERS, I hope they lose....

Can't wait for Saturday! Bought my tix this summer when went on sale. I expect many other buckeye fans did the same seeing how even that early had trouble finding hotels not already booked. I'm guessing not many Sparty fans bought before a couple weeks ago. Here's hoping for a horseshoe (west) atmosphere and we know Wilson will be well rested and ready to fly on the indoor track.

I know we've all been talking about the defense, but I've got the slightest concern that we're becoming way too one dimensional on offense.

It's a slight concern, and I'd take Braxton and Hyde over any QB/RB duo in the nation, but Brax is going to have to make intermediate passes without during the ball over.

The fact that we're #3 in the nation rushing behind triple option teams got me thinking. God, I love that they are that good running the ball, but the past couple games we've been resembling a triple option offense. And by that, I mean keeping plays between the hashes, depending on the QB/RB, and the passing game consists of broken plays or deep routes to catch the defense off guard.

Would love to see some misdirection/screens/slants against MSU but I'm not sure we're good at the Screens or Slants.

EDIT: Nevermind. Keep doing what you're doing until someone stops you.
