Unbelievably, yet another Power Five football program is dealing with yet another significant knee injury involving one of its key players.

On Twitter late Wednesday night, Michigan State announced in a series of tweets that Ed Davis has sustained a season-ending knee injury. The linebacker suffered the injury during Wednesday’s practice, and an MRI determined that surgery will be required to repair the injury.

It was the first practice of summer camp in which the Spartans donned full pads.

“We’re so disappointed for Ed Davis, & his presence in the lineup will be missed. Ed is a tremendous playmaker & a solid leader,” the first of four tweets with quotes from head coach Mark Dantonio began. “Our program has faced adversity before, so now it’s time to adopt the ‘next man up’ mentality. Ed’s season-ending injury provides others with an opportunity to have a positive impact on this team.”

Davis, a fifth-year senior, “might have the opportunity to qualify for a sixth season of eligibility.” Losing him this year, though, is a significant blow to MSU’s defense.

A key contributor the past three seasons, Davis started 12 in 2014. He was third on the team in tackles for loss 12) and sacks (seven), and was named honorable mention All-Big Ten for his performance.

Wish they would announce the time slot already. I was going to take the entire day off, but a coworker has a possible trip to San Francisco if I can come in, which would be during the noon games. Damn you, ESPN.

With all the night games we've played, Meyer's affection for night games, and the potential magnitude of this game, I'd say it's pretty safe to say this will be a night game...in fact, I'd say there's no way this won't be an 8:00 pm game.
