UNBEATEN AND LARGELY UNDOUBTED THROUGH 10 GAMES, OHIO STATE AWARE OF IMMINENT TEST MICHIGAN STATE POSES

Ohio State's known all along it would come to this. Frankly, the Big Ten and college football world knew it would come to this.

Michigan State and Ohio State. Urban Meyer and Mark Dantonio. The defending national champions of the sport battling the last — and only — team to beat them in conference play in Meyer's tenure.

"To win the next week, we’re going to have to be nine strong," Meyer said Saturday after leading the Buckeyes a 28-3 victory at Illinois. "That’s something we’re going to continue to hammer."

"Nine Units Strong." It's the credo Meyer instilled after Dantonio and the Spartans ripped away his chances at capturing the Big Ten Championship in 2013. The mantra led to a national title one year ago — and a resounding 49-37 victory in East Lansing — and provided a base to his program moving forward.

Ohio State's head coach doesn't like to talk about defending titles. He's learned to deal with the pressure of having a loaded team once he reached the pinnacle of the sport differently than in year's past; to appreciate every win and enjoy it with your teammates, coaches and families.

"Defending championships isn't a big topic of conversation," Meyer said Wednesday. "A lot of times, it's survival."

The Big Two Games are Finally Here for the Buckeyes

ElliottScanningField.jpg

For Ohio State, the season is 11 weeks old and every week has been a battle. For Buckeye Nation, the season starts now.

The Buckeyes have gone through the grind and came out 10-0, but all that matters now is the next two games: Michigan State and Michigan.

“Guys always have some awareness of what’s going on,” linebacker Joshua Perry said. “Especially for those last two coming up. We know that it’s do or die basically at this point. We’ve got a big week ahead of us.”

Over the last couple of years, the Scarlet and Gray and the Spartans have become the top two teams in the Big Ten. Michigan State ended OSU’s undefeated season in the Big Ten Title Game two years ago and the Buckeyes won in East Lansing last season to reach the championship game.

The Ohio State and Michigan rivalry is the Ohio State and Michigan rivalry. Enough said.

“This is why we come to Ohio State,” running back Ezekiel Elliott said. “This is why you come to places like Ohio State, to come out here and play in big games. It’s just crazy we’ve got these two back-to-back. The first one is kind of a rivalry and the second one is definitely a rivalry.”

My biggest concern isn't pass pro, it is PLAY CALLING. That is correct, I am screaming it.

We are passing in obvious pass situations, which begs to be blitzed. I want to see more first down play action. More screens and draws in obvious pass downs. More bubbles and hitches to our athletes and let them make a play.

More screens? Hell, I'd like to see just one. LOL.

YES. Not that jailbreak screen crap either to Braxton out wide. That takes just about the most perfect blocking there is to spring a big play out of that. How about just a simple RB screen to either Zeke or Braxton? It was so egregious in the Illinois game in regards to knowing when we were going to pass and run that simply cannot happen (particularly against scum).

To me Beck thinks JT is Taylor Martinez... I get that he's good at the zone read but the guy has a normal throwing motion (unlike martinez) and if you give him time he will for the most part maintain a 65%+ completion percent. Just take some more shots on 1st down in the throw game.

GameDay at the Oval:sad:
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- ESPN's College GameDay will set up in Columbus on Saturday for the first time since 2010 but in a new home.

When the roving Saturday college football show comes to Ohio State, it typically sets up in front of St. John Arena, across the street from Ohio Stadium, with the football stadium serving as the backdrop for the television analysts.

This time, ESPN will build its set on the Oval in front of the William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library. ESPN radio will set up in the usual St. John Arena spot.

GameDay has been at an Ohio State game six times since its last trip to an OSU home game. That's according to the GameDay Wikipedia page, which I do believe does an accurate job of tracking appearances.
