tOSU vs. TTUN, Tues 2/11 @ 9p ET, ESPN

Keep thinking that. I'm talking against Big Ten talent and defenders. Stauskas can get to the rim and create his own shot against Oakland (maybe). He sure as hell wasn't doing it last night (against a guy 5 inches shorter). Or on Saturday against Iowa. Or against Indiana, where he was a non-factor. The list could go on, but you should get the point by now.

I guess Iowa -26, MSU- 19, Wis -23 don't count now. 15 against Craft is extremely good.

I thought the team did not play with much intensity in the second half compared to the first. It almost seems like they play better on a road Sunday do at home which is sad.

Craft has to take that shot when he is straight on at the top of the key. That is probably one of the easiest outside shots to make and even if he misses it there is still a chance for a long rebound. He just has to take that shot or defenders will just clog the key and make it more difficult for everybody else to score.

Instead he dishes to Scott or Smith who throw up a brick from 3. Ugh.

Here's what I think lost us the game (and I'll caveat this with I didn't see the first half, so if this was a halftime adjustment our coaches made then it nullifies what I said):

Throughout the second half, as the shot clock wound down, they would force their way into the lane (either through back downs or getting half-steps off of screens) but our wings would still be in very good position to force a tough shot. As they were taking that tough shot, Amir would come over to attempt to block the shot, but wouldn't be particularly close and would result in 1 of their bigs getting an offensive rebound and put back, or one of their guards getting a rebound because the player guarding them had to crash down on the big.

It would have been an easy adjustment to tell Amir to stay home on his man and get the defensive board. Maybe they kill us on those fades and leaners, but more often than not they're going to miss and then we get the offensive board. That was the only way they generated offense in the second half, and to me that's on the coaches. Maybe it doesn't win us the game, but you have to make that adjustment.

DZ83CK: I do hear what you are saying but it does not excuse the fact that Amir was ranked as the 5th rated Center (scout) coming out of HS and after 3 years he has shown minimal progress. You expect more development after 3 years than that. He shows glimpses of adequate post moves and power dunks........when he is 2 feet from the basket and unguarded. He also shows glimpses of the dominant shot blocker he could be......when he isn't being lazy and out of position. And then he shows all the other negatives......you guys have all watched his play this year so far so I won't pile on.

Well, Amir has improved from when he started at OSU. He could not have averaged 9 points per game when he got to OSU. But I agree in the sense that Amir has not played up to the standard you would expect from a top-50ish player in his class, not by a long shot.

Ha are you that butt hurt?? He scored 15 points while your best defender guarding him and shot 9 shots. And yeah no sheet it is going to be harder to drive to the hoop when a point guard is guarding you. You know what a coach would say when you have someone 6 inches who is quicker guarding you?? Either back him up, or shoot right over him, which Stauskus did. You lost the game, now give credit where credit is due like the rest of the fans on here and quit being a baby with an excuse for everything.

Last night, in the first half I thought I'd heard the 'popping noise'. That's the sound that is made when someone pulls their head out of their a**. Driving the paint, then dishing for flushes, which brought the defenders in tighter, which opened up the 3's. Wonderful. Movement on O, and tight switches on D. Wow. Then the second half occurred, and none of that occurred. Buckeyes went to the weave, which the way tOSU runs it, takes them farther from the basket than closer. Then Craft (or Scott) pull back and start over, leaving only a few seconds on the clock, which usually results in a long toss by the Buckeyes. Not so wonderful.

Let's hope they get it together IF they get into the dance.

I was at the game and sat in the nose bleed section at the end of the court. I watched the "weave" several times and as they executed that ball movement, the M players inched up a little more every time. Hard to pass to the big guy in the middle when that happens.. I think they need to get more creative with their plays. I also had to sit near a group of "blue" cheering this thugs. My first live basketball game was not that much fun.

What kind of draft stock does Craft have? Is this season going to cause him slide compared to where he was last season? Just curious because I thought he may have tried going pro last year.

Craft most likely won't be drafted because he's never shown the ability to be much of an offensive threat and still doesn't hit the 3 regularly. And you don't get drafted on defense alone, even if you're really good at defense. Just ask Chris Kramer.

I love Craft but defense in the NBA is less about on ball defense and more about shot blocking..playing passing lanes and playing the pick and roll. Stauskas hit those step back jumpers off the pick and roll..Craft and the other defender didn't play the pick and roll very well.

...says the guy who--as I predicted--was too cowardly to crawl out of his hole and come around after Iowa handed UM their shirts this past Saturday. Typical Michigan "Man"--come around and talk [censored] when times are good, yet they're nowhere to be found when times are tough.
