tOSU's strength and conditioning

I roomed with a player my sophomore year and he always drank a huge myoplex shake when he got home from practice..then absolutely KILLED the bathroom! LOL! And they do eat pretty good at the training tables. I'm pretty good friends with Troy and the guy has always been pretty jacked since I've known him. No surprise he's on the S&C staff. I need to put him on my payroll when I hit the lottery. The biggest part of getting in shape, putting on muscle, and keeping it is your diet. Eat several small-medium meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism up, triple your daily protein intake, a serious cardio routine, and reduce sugar in your diet. Sounds easy but becomes quite cumbersome once you start making babies. Trust me.

A good way to burn fat, but large amounts of cardio isn't what you want to do to gain serious weight.

I'm just splitting hairs though, its the off-season...

I was just referring to getting in shape. But to gain weight/muscle mass? Then no, you wouldn't want a ton of cardio catabolizing all of your gains in the weightroom. Though not cutting on carbs could help maintain gains if your gonna have a hardcore cardio routine.

But, if you combined lightweight training with your cardio (meaning agility routines, running etc etc w/ additional weight) it becomes very, very effective.

I use this myself most often because its a good time saver, and its great for developing lean muscle.

Scout $ - Strength Staff Pushing Bucks This Offseason

7/6, By Svoboda

Just when members of the Ohio State football team think summer conditioning workouts are over, they have another thing coming this year. The strength and conditioning staff has added tough exercises to the end of each session in an effort to build mental toughness going into an uncertain season, and the players are happy for the changes.

Football: Buckeyes now health nuts
With dietician Sarah Wick in charge, Ohio State players reap benefits of proper eating

Sarah Wick probably doesn?t look like a transformational figure for Ohio State football.

She?s a congenial 49-year-old mother of two teenage boys. But ?Miss Sarah,? as the Buckeyes players call her, is leading a quiet revolution in the program.

For as many ways as the Buckeyes have spared no expense to build and maintain an elite program, one of the most basic building blocks to success went neglected until Urban Meyer was hired as coach. His holistic approach to player development includes proper diet. As hard as it may be to believe, Ohio State did not have anyone dedicated to that for its football program.

?I was just surprised that a nutritionist didn?t work with football,? said Mickey Marotti, assistant athletic director for sports performance. ?I was like, ?Well, we?re gonna have one.? ?

Marotti, whom Meyer has described as his most important hire, approached athletic director Gene Smith, who quickly gave his approval. Enter Wick, an OSU dietician who has worked with athletes in other sports since 2003.

?We have wanted to be in there,? Wick said of working with football. ?We have put posters in the strength room. We have tried to put the foot in the door, but it was just not something that was embraced, I guess.?

Since Wick was hired, the results from players? improved diets are dramatic. Wick said the Buckeyes have lost a combined 457 pounds of fat and gained 520 pounds of muscle mass since she started her program.

Contd....

I found that video to be hilarious, but I am not sure why. I think it was having players sleep through the infomerical, which kind of says that maybe camp is hard. Kind of like running the marathon and looking at all the people laying in the gutter on the side of the road. "Hey mom, the closest I have gotten to being a movie star was sleeping in the background of an infomercial."

Or maybe it is the TV in the background showing tOSU romping over tSUN.

Or the boxing match on the TV. Or the ultimate punishment for not hydrating ... drinking a gatorade with extra gatorade powder mixed in and with yucky cherry juice mixed in.
