Very nice of God to keep it off the road.

now that is one heck of a high tide mark. I'm glad to hear it wasn't as bad as it could have been but am concerned with how many stayed behind and put themselves and emergency crews in danger without thinking. When they say get out, they mean get out.

JUUUUUST a little bit....Here is my humble home:

No water in the house, I actually fared better for this one than I did for Rita or Lili ('02) as far as the height, but it stuck around an extra day this time around. Still an inch or so of standing water in my driveway and backyard (the smell is fucking horrendous).

yeah, wouldn't be a bad idea. My house is on 28 inch blocks right now. If I were to raise it, I would have to meet the new codes. Right now, my elevation is right around 6ft above sea level, new codes in this area call for 14 feet :yow1:

Wow. That would be a lot of retro-fitting. I do like those houses on stilts. They have a visual charm to them. I stayed in one for awhile, visiting my mom, when she was working as a land liason for the fisherman out on shrimp boats for a small fishing company down in Lousiana. I don't think I could live in one for ever but it made for a very interesting little vacation. Got pretty good after awhile at spotting sunning gators. :tongue2:

Yeah, going up and down them steps gets old though.
My sister's house is about 8 foot off the ground. I helped her move into it. Thank god she had an elevator.

The house I was staying at was about 8 feet up too. And yes, after a week or so, I would have loved an ellalator!

Not everyone gets to hunt gators from their front porch. You are fortunate

I'm back at last. Power came on last night. Phone/DSL are back today. Most important, everyone is safe. Had a fair amount of roof damage, as did most of the people in my subdivision. Some water came in the house and a wall will probably have to be replaced, possibly the carpet in the same room. As always, it could have been worse. Missing the USC game didn't turn out to be such a bad thing. Hopefully, the insurance company will let me know where I stand soon so I can go back to worrying about Beanie's toe instead of hurricanes.

Thanks for the concern.
