ttun Shenanigans and Arguments (2015 official thread)

Rumor I heard is that Swenson was cool with the Netflix but balked at the chill.

The timing stinks, but he still has a couple months to choose somewhere else. NSD is only the first day to sign papers.
Are you fucking kidding? How many worthwhile schools will have any scholarships at all available by 6:00pm on NLOID? We start shitting our pants here if someone hasn't faxed in their signed letter by lunchtime on NLOID...

There will be spots for Swenson, but when people say 'a couple months' for a kid to decide between a variety of schools he never expected, review academics (do they even carry his major? program prestige? etc.), developing a relationship with the coaching staff and his specific OL coach, getting a vibe for the players on the team, the area that he'll be living at, etc....."a couple months" to spend the next 4 to 5 years of his life....yep, very fair.

This kid has been a stud as far as how he and his family have been dealing with this though. Top notch - I know Nebraska seems to be active with him but wouldn't mind seeing him at NW and really showing out in the near future.

I said the timing stinks.

But what's the difference in a school pulling an offer at this time and two big time recruits flipping from one school to the other at the same time? We feel bad for the kid who lost his scholarship, but we celebrate the other kids who left a school out to dry. You can't pamper one side and not the other. It's either [Mark May]ty both ways or just business.

The difference is one is an actual person who now needs to find a new college to spend the next 4 years of his life while thinking about his entire future (most shouldn't assume they will make it to the NFL and should be looking at the academics)

Another is a multi-million dollar institution that can find another student to fill the class or bank the position for next year.

Yes, clearly the same.

Probably not with all the new info that has come to light. Glad he will probably end up at Wiscy, but the tale he spun about being blindsided is weak at best now

What info? The latest I saw is an article that puts the first suggestion of a problem from Michigan's side in this month. Link, please.

Mark Molinari, Swenson's prep coach at Downers Grove South in Illinois, says Michigan offensive line coach Tim Drevno called in early January to tell him that Swenson should take other official visits.

"Coach Drevno called and said 'we're going to encourage Erik to take his five visits,'" Molinari said Friday evening. "I asked him specifically 'Are you pulling his offer?' The answer was 'No, we just want to continue to feel each other out.' I said 'Coach, are you pulling his offer?' and the answer was no.

"He was never told (in the fall) that you're being re-evaluated. We wouldn't have put ourselves in this position (if he was). Erik didn't have any official visits to go on and he hadn't gone any because he hadn't planned on going anywhere but the University of Michigan."
