Watched the 2018 game (1 hour version) on BTN yesterday. I had forgotten about the dreadful Martell plays at the end of the first half and on the second drive in the second half. Everybody in the stadium knew what was coming, and the plays never broke the line of scrimmage inside the tsun 5. We left 8 points on the board right there. I really wanted 70.

I wanted the Bucks to go for that last touchdown and then go for two.

There was a TD at the end of the 1st half as well. I don't remember who Haskins threw it too, but whoever it was, Victor I think maybe... caught the ball while having his toes down in the endzone. Pass was ruled incomplete on the field and there was no review.

Sorta like the hit Wade laid on the RB for ttun that forced a fumble that would've been housed for 6? That was also ruled incomplete and no review

Not to poop in your cheerios, but I don't think the ball was in the endzone. Best case scenario is he's out of bounds at the one.

Go to about 1:25:15.
Replay at about 125:54.
I'm also not sure his foot is down before he hits the pylon.

The announcers are talking about how the ball doesn't break the plane. But, I believe it doesn't matter because Victor had established himself in the EZ and when he caught the ball, his left foot is still kickin up rubber pellets. He completed the catch, having had possession of the football with his toes in the endzone.

I had a screen cap at one point that I was hoping to post, but I couldn't find it. His foot is down and the ball is in his hands.

I guess I thought the rule was that the ball has to break the plane. I've never heard about anything about "establishing himself in the EZ". Either way, I agree that the play should have been reviewed.

In an ordinary situation, that's obviously correct - the ball has to break the plane. But, in this case, the player is in the EZ, in bounds, and has possession of the football. I could be wrong, but that's been my understanding.

I don't know what the rule is. But forget about the sideline for a minute. What if a receiver is standing in the end zone in the middle of the field and he lays out and catches the ball at the 1 1/2 yard line with his feet still touching in the end zone. Touchdown? I don't think so. but what do I know?

Here is what I found:

A touchdown shall be scored when:
  1. A ball carrier advancing from the field of play has possession of a live ball when it penetrates the plane of the opponent’s goal line. This plane extends beyond the pylons only for a player who touches the ground in the end zone or a pylon.
  2. A player catches a forward pass in the opponent’s end zone.

Still some ambiguity, but if the ball needed to cross the plane in either case that wording should have been included in #2.

I have watched the 2017, 2018, and 2019 editions of The Game, the Alabama 2014 and Ducks game, the two Wisky B1G championship games and a few others while I ride the indoor cycle. Today, my 21 year old daughter says, "Dad, that ref can't hear you. I watched that game with you live. Stop shouting at the TV please." My answer: "He's had years to fix it and he still is fucking it up!" You gotta raise 'em right.
