2020 TX RB EJ Smith (Stanford signee)

I have stated several times that I think Bijan is the best RB in the country. I HATE losing him....with that said, I just watched EJ’s highlights for the first time...if that’s who we get as a “backup plan” then I will sleep okay. I do worry a little about the average production. 5.7 ypc is good in college, and I guess pretty good playing at a high level in Texas. Just not what I was expecting. Bijan averaged over 14 ypc last year. That’s just unreal, especially for someone with 170 carries! But I do like what I saw from EJ.

Definitely seems like all the information is leading to the fact that he's still being heavily recruited and was one of the first recruits Ohio State reached out to this week.
Then again, I don't value insider information as much as many. But I feel like the last 2 days is a pretty good indication as to why I don't. Useful for a baseline reading on where we sit, nothing else IMHO.

If he comes to Ohio State and gets in our strength and conditioning program, I think he shows similar home run speed to Elliot or Dobbins within a year or two. (More of a high 4.5 guy atm)

With that speed and his ability to run routes and high point the ball, he could be an extremely tough player to scheme against. He could line up and shift to the backfield or slot, forcing defenses to play more zone. If you can predicate a defensive scheme based on one player, you've got something special from an Xs and Os stand point. He could compliment the passing game perhaps better than just about any back in this loaded RB class with his WR skills.

What makes anyone think that he's seriously still interested. On 6/23 given what we were hearing, it looks like we would have been another hat on the table.

One would hope the coaching staff has kept an open line of communication with him regardless and has the potential to push.

If Day's recruiting staff philosophy is "pick our guy and forget the rest", we have a lot of future disappointment headed or way unless they change that philosophy immediately. I doubt that is indeed the philosophy though. They know more than anyone that nothing is for certain until the letter is signed. If you don't give yourself multiple options, you're going to be embarrassed more than you would like and have holes in your classes regularly.

Burning all your bridges in June-July just because you *think* you have your answers. What could possibly go wrong ....

That's a very different scenario than what I suggested.

But, yup... agree, even if I highly doubt that it needed to be stated.

To be fair, the scenario you described wasn't very specific. I have no idea what happened on 6/23 that would suggest we shut down his recruitment.

Definitely would like to know.

Scroll up and see the date on his tweet of final five.

And if I caused a problem with pronoun ambiguity, to clarify:
He = EJ

He != Day

To be fair, I think it was obvious.
