Next week they take on Denmark. The USSF has done well with scheduling friendlies leading up to the WC. Some great competition.
Yeah, we did much better in the 2002 WC when we scheduled a lot of European teams than in 2006, when we played a few garbage teams.

And agreed about Casey and Boca, they are not good. It's a shame that Boca has the armband, I'd say he should be behind Onyewu, DeMerit, and Marshall in the CB depth chart.

Tough to take too much from this, with all the absences. I'd like to see Dempsey up top with Altidore against Denmark, I feel like that might be our best forward option in the WC.

Pretty terrible defending and a shameful lack of effort leads to a 3-1 effort. Not too much to take away from it. I think Hejduk's national team career is likely over, and Cunningham's probably earned himself more call-ups, though I don't think he deserves them.

A Hejduk-Boca-Spector-Bornstein backline is no good. We need Onyewu, Marshall, and DeMerit healthy ASAP.

Not to mention a Landon Donovan-less squad.

I shudder at the thought of him getting injured before the WC.

From Jeremy Schapp's Twitter

Interviewed Charlie Davies today. Brief clip on SportsCenter at 11 ET. Lede: He expects to be playing in SA next June. Recovering quickly...

...would be incredible. I simply don't see how that could be possible, but if anyone could do it, Charlie Davies comes to mind.

Another article (French) states he could start jogging in February. Remarkable. Kid has heart.

Part of the reason for the fast recovery is because he was in such good shape before the injury, he can recover faster than someone for example Charlie Weis. But man I would love to see him on the pitch in June. SO LONG as it's not forced and he is 100%.

The USA have a friendly tonight against Honduras in Los Angeles, 9pm on Fox Soccer Channel. The roster is mostly MLS players, guys looking to get one of the few tickets to South Africa up for grabs. The projected lineup:
---------------Casey----------Cunningham-------------

Rogers-----------------------------------------Kljestan

----------------Beckerman---Feilhaber----------------

Bornstein----Conrad---------Marshall----------Alston

------------------------Perkins--------------------------

In other news, yesterday Ives Galarcep posted on twitter that he'd just seen something that made him very hopeful about the US' chances in the world cup. He soon posted a youtube video of Oguchi Onyewu running on a treadmill, which he took down soon after. And the rumor is that Charlie Davies is now walking without a limp. Very encouraging to hear.

I'm interested to see how Cunningham performs tonight. He tore up MLS this season and his last performance for the national team was very good. Obviously, we now have a huge void up front with the loss of Dempsey, in addition to the loss of Davies. I'm hopeful that Cunningham will be able to be bring good pace to the game and hopefully be a serviceable replacement for Davies up front.

The news about Onyewu is very encouraging, but he still has a long way to go. There is a big difference between being healthy and being fit. Hopefully he can continue the recovery process and get some game action before the Serie A season concludes. If he can enter the World Cup in decent form, it would be a huge boost for our Defense, as he is clearly the USA's best defender.

Davies on remarkable path to recovery
What does this progress mean, exactly? It means that, barring any setbacks, Davies could be back on the field with club team FC Sochaux by April, meaning his chances of playing for the United States in June's World Cup should no longer be seen as a shattered dream.

This is insane, considering at first people thought he may never play again. Got to love this guy's heart.

Appears to be a miracle he survived the crash. So many initial injuries, including a broken femur, which is a dangerous area for anyone.

I'm amazed at his progress. Kid has a huge heart.

He'll be a lift not only on the field, but in the locker room. This US team is ready to play this summer and I imagine Charlie's return will lift the spirits that much more.

Onyewu is doing remarkably well, too, so I hear.

edit-

Ok, this kid's story is amazing. The ESPN article showed that. Tons more quotes that didn't make Ives' story.
