UF OL Ronnie "Taz" Wilson (official thread)

Rooting for ya Taz. We've seen a few of our own fall down and not get back up... and it kills us all to see talent like that thrown away. It seems like you're putting in the time and work. Keep the determination. Stick with it and stay up on the classes. There's a ton of us rooting for you.

Make the most of every chance you've got.

Despite arrest, UF's Wilson returns to practice
GAINESVILLE --
Former Pompano Beach Ely standout Ronnie Wilson rejoined the University of Florida football team Monday as a walk-on, more than one year after being kicked out of school for shooting an assault rifle into the air near campus.

Through a public records search, The Miami Herald has learned that Wilson was arrested again on Jan. 6 and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to court records. The arrest, which should have been a violation of Wilson's probation terms, went unnoticed by the state attorney's office in Gainesville, according to spokesman Spencer Mann.
Some pretty interesting stuff in that article, including Meyer's comments on Taz's status with the team, and the director of judicial affairs opinion.

Taz is not going to Jacksonville with the team because of some off-field incident. I will not assume that he is officially off the team with out hearing more, but a third strike would be fatal to his career at UF . I'll let you know more as I hear it.

Was just thinking about Taz the other day. Perhaps I should stop thinking.

OL Wilson held out of practice by Meyer

GAINESVILLE - Florida junior offensive lineman Ron Wilson isn't practicing and "has got to take care of some business," according to Gators coach Urban Meyer, before returning to the field.
Wilson was allowed back on the team this summer after being away for the 2007 season because of charges of firing a firearm into the air outside a nightclub. Wilson also was arrested on charges of marijuana possession in January, but those charges were later dropped.
"We have some expectations, and he's got to meet them," Meyer said.

OG Ron Wilson away from team; his rocky saga with Gators continues

Redshirt junior OG Ron Wilson is currently not a member of the Florida Gators -- again. Wilson is away from the team while he is "working some things out," a football spokesman told the Sentinel on Wednesday afternoon.
The Sentinel inquired after hearing Wilson, who has been arrested twice since 2007, might have violated a one-strike policy with Coach Urban Meyer and the Gators, a stipulation for letting him back on the team in the preseason.
Coach Urban Meyer spoke briefly about Wilson after Wednesday's practice, saying he's not practicing while taking care of some business. When asked if Wilson was still on the team, Meyer said he didn't know. "We have some expectations and you've got to meet them," he said. It's still speculation at this point, but Wilson could be gone for good.

not many thought more highly of this kid when he was recruiting... I was sure he'd play on Sundays... I am highly disappointed in how things have gone

Strike Eleventy Million, you're out.

Even in the SEC.

No way of knowing, but merely skipping class - an honorable college student past time - would be the strike that gets him gone on the short leash he was let back on. If that turns out to be it, then it would really be a shame.

Yes, that would be a shame, if that was his only error. But owning an AK-47 (much less firing it in a situation like he did) AND possession of an illegal substance makes class-skipping the proverbial straw that broke th camel's back, IMHO.

Not arguing that at all. Just saying the fact he is in trouble does not mean that he did anything illegal or even immoral this time.

Just wanted to keep it fact based, and we do not know at this time.

Fair comment but I can't imagine why we keep discussing this guy. He wrote our board a few times, fine. But he chose to play at Florida and he has made a train smash of his time there. I'd love to see this thread drop off the front page.

I agree it does seem like we are beating a dead horse here; however, who knows keeping Taz's story current here may have some redeaming social values (i.e. another recruit may read about the all mistakes that TAZ made and the subsequent consequences, and decide to straighten up his act, etc.)
