UH exploring additional football game for 2012

Unstupid

A team has contacted the Warriors about the possibility of an extra game at Aloha Stadium

A football team from the East has contacted Hawaii coach Norm Chow about the possibility of playing a game against the Warriors at Aloha Stadium in December.
There are numerous hurdles to overcome before the proposal could become a reality. For instance, UH's season tickets and pay-per-view packages already have been set and sold. There also are several layers of administrative approval the Warriors would need to receive.
But the prospect is intriguing, although not unprecedented.
After UHdefeated Brigham Young in the regular-season finale in 2001, school officials sought to schedule an add-on game that year. That proposal failed, although it did pave the way for the creation of the Hawaii Bowl the following year.
Under terms of the NCAA's so-called "Hawaii exemption," the Warriors are allowed to play up to 13 regular-season football games each year. What's more, a visiting team is allowed to exceed the NCAA's 12-game limit for the regular season.
The Warriors are scheduled to play only 12 regular-season games this year.

I don't suppose it is you guys.. cause you guys really deserve a 13th game!

Interesting!

Penn St?

NCAA By-Law 17.9.5.2.j allows for a game in Hawaii that doesn't count against the limit of twelve regular-season games for Division I-A schools.

The recent NCAA sanctions against USC and Ohio State included a ban on using this scheduling exception.

Here's where it gets interesting. The abusive consent decree that Penn State President Rodney Erickson signed with the NCAA does NOT include such a ban.

In July Bill O'Brien told ESPiN Radio he wants a game in Hawaii to "act as our bowl game at the end of the year."

Athletic Director Dave Joyner was asked about O'Brien's comments at Big Ten Media Days...

"We have some open dates coming up in the next few years. We haven't talked to them. If it's within the regular season structure, we'll look into it."

Now comes this teaser from today's Honolulu Star Advertiser...

As we look at the 2012 schedules of Hawaii and Penn State, we see twelve games each and open dates on December 8th.

It will be interesting to see if anything comes of this.

O'Brien is denying that it's Penn St. Running through Twitter feeds of some journalists and it appears some are parroting verification that PSU is eligible for a date on the island with UH while Ohio State is not, but I don't recall ever reading that.

Anyone have a link to the NCAA report that states Ohio State couldn't schedule this?

I seriously hope it's not us. It's a fucking bush league move, and if GS is dumb enough to try it, I pray that his superiors would kill it on sight.

We got caught. We got put on probation. We need to deal with it with some dignity and get it over with.
