underclassmen declaring for NFL

Why would Eli be slower next year? I'm convinced they're all gone and while it sucks I'm ok with it. There's a couple positives In all of this though.

1. We can sell this like Kentucky Basketball does. Want to win it all and get to the NFL? This is the school for you then.

2. These guys leaving have won a championship. It sounded awesome when we thought of these players finishing their careers as seniors because it would've made for amazing years but there's something to be said for having that hunger. Marshall and Bell both admitted this year's team was satisfied before the season ever started and became bored of winning. Straight up a lot of the key cogs next year will not have played a big role in the 15' championship so they'll WANT IT more. Not saying this year's bunch did anything on purpose but it's hard to replicate that drive and this next year's team will have that drive.

3. We had some people playing out of position the last few years. This is where some of you may disagree with me but here it goes. We had a once defensive tackle playing RT, a corner playing Safety, and a high school quarterback playing WR. This gives us a chance to get back to playing people who have played their positions for a long time.

People like Austin Mack, Noah Brown, Stump, and Even Gibson (who played WR some in HS) will have bigger roles in this offense. Giving us players who aren't your 6 foot 200 pound H backs playing WR. True recievers.

Then obviously Prince in replace of Farris is a more natural fit. Same goes for Smith in replace of Powell provided he gets healthy

I've seen a lot of guys every year that leave early and get drafted in the 6th/7th round or not at all and are jobless and nearly broke 2 years later with no degree.
True enough, but there's no guarantee things would be better for them had they stuck around another year.

I believe tOSU has a program to support early departure athletes in coming back and finishing their degrees. That's sufficient in my view.

I don't think this is a problem at all, as long as they have the skills to play the position. We also had a high school quarterback playing LB and that worked out pretty okay.

How many times does that really happen though? Not much...

After rethinking about it I think Apple did the right thing. Big Corner who did well most of the year this and last year. Also everyone in the back 7 is leaving so you may as well.

Right? I won't lie I'm becoming a little numb with all of this. Time will tell but if any early entry didn't go in the first two rounds it was a mistake to declare. So we will see but at this point I think some of these players decisions are coming with the influence of other players decisions. Don't particularly blame them either.

If I know both safeties aren't coming back then as a corner back I don't want to come be apart of that either. Then if I'm a linebacker and I know 3 of the back 4 and 5 of the back 7 aren't returning then I don't want to be apart of that.

As it stands the new defense has THREE returning starters although 5-6 have played extensively. At best on offense 4-5 starters return there as well giving us 7-8 returning starters COMBINED lol

With the schedule looking the way it does I can see the argument for a 3-4 loss season. I think the offense will be ok but I am extremely concerned about our defense to be frank.

Marshall? Really? I missed that one. Good for Wilson I guess (he's back right?). Seems like JM could have improved his stock with another year. Can't really argue any of the others except for maybe Apple since I think he could do better than 3rd with another year. IMO if you aren't a clear 1 or 2 you should stay in school unless you've hit your ceiling and been in school for 4 years.

How much experience did Hubbard have at DE before this year? He was a safety in high school. I'm not saying we should have everyone playing a different position than they did in high school, but it's not all that unusual to make some moves like that.

As for those leaving...I'm not surprised or disappointed by any of them. I want to thank all of them for what they've accomplished and wish them nothing but success moving on. Football is brutal and even the minimum salary for making a roster is a lot relative to the average person. Bank that cash while you can.

The only position on defense I'm really worried about is safety. Obviously Bosa is pretty much irreplaceable, but if you are going to replace him Hubbard and Lewis is a pretty good start. Not to mention Cornell and Cooper and another guy named Bosa. I still think we will have the best production at DE in the conference. DT will be a concern, but it was a concern this year. Schutt and the others were basically all Just Guys and Adolphus is a 1st round NFL pick based on his athletic traits, not his production. At LB I think there's a decent chance by the end of the season that Booker & Baker (or Hilliard etc) can be close to Lee & Perry. They have more talent at least. Lee broke out (unexpectedly) as a 2nd year guy and I don't see why Baker couldn't have a similar breakout. Perry wasn't a star. He was a solid starter. Programs like Ohio State can replace guys like him. I think Webb or Lattimore can be good #2 CBs this year next to Conley. I like Apple but again, Ohio State should be able to replace a guy who was maybe a B+ production-wise. Safety, though, is a pretty big concern. Bell could change a game. Powell was erratic but he could also make plays. I'm not sure there's a guy in the new group that is ready to replace them. I like Erick Smith but he kind of seems like a guy who has trouble maintaining momentum in the program. Burrows has trouble staying healthy. (I admit I am projecting at the LB position to maybe an unfair level relative to the S b/c they are as unproven a group as the S I am skeptical of. Admittedly just a guess on my part. But it's based on the fact we have recruited at a higher level at LB than S and it seems like the whispers coming out of the team shows they are higher on the LB group than the S group.)
