Actually they beat Michigan earlier this season 7-1 :wink2:

While the Big 10 may have held a bunch of slots in the tourny (1 now), you might as well have crowned Akron the Big 10 champs this year, posting a 4-0-1 record and 14-5 goal differential against them. I don't have the records on hand right now but I don't think Akron has lost to a Big 10 team since that 07 playoff debacle by the NCAA where they deemed Akron's field unplayable due to weather and found a "neutral" site for Akron and Northwestern to play at..........damn near on Northwestern's campus.

That being said, Michigan has been on a crazy tear every since that whoopin almost 2 months ago. They haven't lost since and have been putting up a ton of goals at the same time. I've been watching Akron soccer for about 5 years now, and I don't like how regularly they are giving up goals through the 2nd half of the season. Very uncharacteristic of their style. I feel like it's going to catch up with them soon. Just hope that "soon" is sometime during the '11 preseason games lol

UM soccer program is well known, even to us who think only communists play soccer. I kid you not, during "The Game", I mused how remarkably stupid RichRod is not to have anyone who can kick a ball. I'm gonna miss him.

:shake: they lost to The Ohio State University this season:)

it was a draw. Exciting draw, but a draw nonetheless. Unless you consider a tie to be a great victory. In which case: Is that you Gordon Gee?

It was a great game to be at. I cheered for the draw of course.

At least we didn't lose and not many other Big Ten schools can say that when playing the Zippers... Gordon:biggrin2:

Yea, I was at the game. We helped OSU set an attendance record for their soccer program that night. Buckeyes tied it up 2-2 with 2 seconds left on the clock in regulation. I will say this about what I saw, OSU disappointed in one major way. Of all the college soccer I've watched over the last few years, that Buckeye team played the dirtiest. One particular play was just totally over the top and uncalled for. Led to an OSU red card.

Impressive facts

Louisville coach (Ken Lolla) was the prior coach of the Zips...and led the Zips to six NCAA appearances
kinda amusing that the two coaches (Caleb Porter and Lolla) in the natl championship game came from the same program.. Akron Zips..

Zips are 61-0-1 since 2006 in which they scored at least 2 goals...

also amusing that when Akron played Indiana in the Sweet 16, that both opposing coaches (Porter and Todd Yeagley) played together for Indiana and were roommates... and then both were asst coaches on Indiana at the same time... under Yeagley's father.. an absolute icon in NCAA soccer

That game could have gotten ugly. I don't think the OSU fans appreciated all of the Akron students that showed up and that didn't help matters much.

But the fact is that Akron drew a record attendance crowd at Ohio State. That says something and it was a pretty damn good game.

Its pretty cool that some lesser known school in a city mainly recognized for an egomaniacal basketball player is playing for the national title two years in a row. Go Zips!

7 players from the Columbus Crew Soccer Academy will be playing in the national championship game between the two teams- 5 from Akron (Chad Barson, Ben Speas, Thomas Schmitt, Eric Stevenson and Andrian McAdams) and two from Louisville (Aaron Horton and Alex Obbey). Ohio is well represented in the upcoming game!
