You've just been convinced of that? Just about all the kids in the cincy area are now seriously looking at UC. Kelly has put them on the map, I know their facilities and history won't rival tOSU, but kids from down here are willing to stay at home to play for a team in a major conference for a school that is on the rise. UC will be a little thorn in the side of tOSU's recruiting efforts down here, and at the moment Cincy is producing the best football players!

James would be the first really big name to sign with UC over offers from much more prestigious schools. (Other than Alex Smith and lets see if that commitment sticks)

Posey, Norwell, Hicks, Rudolph, Hendrix & Ware are the biggest names I can think of in the last few years from the area. None of them seriously considered UC.

The biggest issue for UC is how long will Brian Kelly be there. He is a hot commodity in the coaching ranks. Stability is probably the #1 issue for any recruit thinking about UC.

I'd still rank NE Ohio way ahead of Cinti in terms of the best football talent.

nah...

:)

back to James...thanks for the comments, X fan. I've heard that James is kind of a quiet kid and has been kind of 'star struck' as each offer/contact came in. I hope he's a Buckeye but I wouldn't be heart broken if he stayed home, either.

Why would you be surprised that someone isn't already convinced of the possibility when UC has yet to beat OSU in a recruiting battle?

If it doesn't happen this year, it'll happen eventually. We all considered Glenville kids a lock and then one got away. Sooo...it'll happen one day, but I'm not betting on Matt James being that one that got away.

Do a quick search of how many UC commits were offered by Florida, LSU, OSU, Notre Dame, etc. Or you could just ask me if you want to be more efficient.

I know Kelly is improving things and UC is getting much more recognition with recruits, but let's be reasonable. Kelly isn't continually stealing kids from the powerhouses. I've heard from various sources familiar with the situation that James is a unique kid (not necessarily worried about going to a "big name" school) and going to UC with Luke is a real possibility.

Regardless, UC is still in Clifton.:sick1:

I love all the new UC fans. I grew up and now live in Cincinnati. Clifton is horrible. The fanbase is a bunch of bandwagon jumpers. They had trouble getting 20,000 fans not too long ago. The school is not very highly rated academically, and for sports it's no where near OSU either. If he goes to UC he would be making a huge mistake all around. Much better options out there.

All I'm saying is that its no surprise that this kid is looking at UC since he's from Cincinnati. All of the players mentioned above by Pimpinnati were recruits before UC won the Big East, which was huge for them in recruiting. Kelly staying is the biggest obstacle, and I'm not saying their going to get a ton of 5star guys, they might not get any, but recruits from down here are seriously looking at UC as an option, other than just tOSU or OOS. And btw the Cincinnati area has owned the state playoffs since at least 2000, NE Ohio aint touching us, and won't be for a while. But anyway, back to Mr. James, and I do hope he eventually signs with the S&G.

Eugene Clifford was a huge recruit from the area, he ultimately signed with tOSU but did indeed seriously considered UC

It is precisely that a kid seriously considers the home school and then leaves town that highlights how much of a long shot schools like UC are for top tier players. It is head over heart.

I'm not here to say that UC is going to start going toe to toe on every recruit with OSU now and in the future but if UC can keep coach Kelly and continue to win double-digit games or close to it then I would expect them to be able to keep a good number of the blue-chippers from the greater Cincinnati area at home. Cincinnati is not that bad of a place to play, I don't think so anyway. The stadium is substancially smaller in comparison to OSU's but it is unique. I don't know if any of you have been there but when it's full it does provide a very cool atmosphere in my opinion. And then there is the element of having all your friends and family within a 30 minute radius and they can come watch you play whenever they choose. There is something about the place that I can see why is would be a viable option for hometown recruits.
