Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

Then a coach who knowingly gave money to players and whose actions caused the NCAA to put the school on probation is an embarrassment to the school and has no place on tOSU Mt. Rushmore? Or do those rules only apply to Tressel because he is outspoken about his Christian faith and you have a tremendous bias?
Because Wayne Woodrow Hayes did exactly that. Under the circumstances, I believe what he did was the right thing. However, the university ended up on probation because of his actions. Based on your logic (or lack thereof) he should have been tarred and feathered (before being quartered).

Woody was a Navy man, it would have been keel-hauled.

Just watched The Journey on BTN and it covered the B1G CCG. Very well done as usual and the last bit where Meyer is waving and they put up that he announced he's done after the Rose Bowl was....wow.

UFM put this program into hyperdrive. JT rebuilt it from the end of the Cooper era and got this program over the hump against the SECSECSEC and scUM. Meyer took that, polished it, and then turned it up a notch. Day may be great, he may not be anything more that very good, but I'm going to enjoy it and enjoy the privilege of watching Ohio State football.

Just documenting the evidence that, for the most part, our fans are not ingrate pieces of shit like Florida fans are. From what I've seen @Gatorubet is very much in the minority of Florida fans who appreciate the coach who accomplished more for that program in six years than all of their other coaches combined have done. The majority seem to have nothing but unbridled hate for him.

He left us a rather dysfunctional team on the way out. But really, the truth of the thing is that it's far easier for fans to blame the coach who left than blame the AD for the bad replacement hire. You gotta admit, Urb's on again, off again, resignation made us a bit of a laughing stock. BP had an opinion on that back then that was not so complimentary.

And there is this:

"I made this clear to Jeremy Foley (Florida Athletic Director), if I am able to go coach, I want to coach at one place, the University of Florida. It would be a travesty, it would be ridiculous to all of a sudden come back and get the feeling back, get the health back, feel good again and then all of a sudden go throw some other colors on my shirt and go coach? I don't want to do that. I have too much love for this University and these players and for what we've built." -- Urban Meyer, after resigning at UF

So before you judge us too harshly, at least hold off until you are positive you don't have to watch Urbs on a different program's sideline a couple years after this. Because if that happens, then I think there might be a few minds changed. Could be wrong. And Jag, mostly I think my opinion of Tress was expressed frequently enough that BP does not also need my opinion on Urban. And trust me, I have one. Call it bandwidth limit, if you will.

But you know, the guy beat the shit out of Georgia. So whatever his faults, he'll always have my undying gratitude for some great memories.

I very clearly remember the posts about UM when he was still with your team. I may have even made some myself. That's what we do here--rag on players & coaches that aren't ours. We're a snarky bunch.

Personally, unless he decides to join Benedict Warriner on his sidelines, I don't think it's any of my business whether UM decides down the road to coach again. But if half of what they're saying about his physical situation is accurate, it sounds ill-advised.

Sure, I (and many others) hoped for a few more NC trophies. Seemed like a reasonable expectation. But he did enough. We owe him.

In 2009, when stress hit him at Florida, Meyer was just 45. He was in his 40s when he took the Ohio State job, a dream job written into his contract at Florida.

Anyone who does not see that Tressel produced a step change from Cooper and that Meyer followed him with a step change again sees things very differently than I. Day takes over a machine.

Will the golden age of Buckeye football continue? My reading is that the AD thinks this is the best way to do that.

Urban Meyer erred in not firing Zac Smith out of loyalty to his grandfather. He did not enable spousal abuse. He did not enable a culture that promotes gender or racial abuse.

He is a man whose winning record and recruiting threatened the narrative and financial interests of a failing sports network. Weakened by a congenital arachnid cyst, he became the easy target of their lies.

A man sees the world differently at 55 than he saw it at 45. If he decides to coach again, I wish him well but I am betting that his family will make sure he does not.

Tressel deserves it for on-field, no doubt. But of you're talking the entire picture, no way. He cheated. He lied repeatedly. He left in disgrace with the program on probation.

He didn't cheat. He was put in an incredibly bad situation when a lawyer broke attorney client privelege to give him a tip that a few of his players were mixed up with some really shady dude.

The fact that he didn't delete the email should give you all the information you need about his desire to bend or break the rules. One click. That's all he needed for plausible deniability. Yet he didn't click. That lawyer had his license suspended by the way.

Now you could make the argument that he should have known that his players were mixed up with some really shady dude and were trading their shoes for tattoos, but if you're gonna throw that stone, then Urban is equally guilty for Zach Smith's alleged domestic issues.

EVERY big time college football coach has dirt on him and skeletons in his closet. Every single one. The small time coaches do too. And only fucking Columbus, Ohio takes so much pride in throwing their coach under the bus.

Take that TE from Alabama that got busted with a pound of weed a few years back. What happened to him? Saban said that they were handling it in house, and that was the end. He wasn't suspended, and he didn't serve a day in jail.

But that won't fly in Columbus!

Dude was running a billion dollar Ponzi scheme in Miami, taking the players on the yacht, paying for whores and abortions, and what happened to the Canes? Not a got damn thing. Because they SHUT THE FUCK UP. UNC was running a fake college FFS, and what happened to them? Nothing, and you know why? BECAUSE THEY SHUT THE FUCK UP.

y'all really need to take your Fifth Amendment more seriously in that town. You have the right to remain silent. SO KEEP YOUR FUCKING MOUTH SHUT.

You will have a hard time convincing me that JT didn't keep Smith informed and in the end took one for the team.

He also lied to his employer. Are there gradiations between lying about his players getting free shit and lying about them burying dead hookers? Sure, but all you're saying is that the head coach gets to decide when and to whom to lie. Is there a certain dollar value at which point he should stop lying and follow the rules? If it's free cocaine instead of tattoos is it still ok for him to lie about it?

You can parse his actions all you want, but he made decisions that disgraced himself and the university, caused a pr black eye that makes ZS seem quaint and, for the football uber alles crowd, cost us at least one legit shot at an NC.
You mean, "All right, I did it, but so and so did something far worse," is not a sound legal strategy?

I'll always believe that the start of Tressel's downfall was the recruiting circus he got caught up in with Pryor. I believe he looked at his potential QB roster and saw Bauserman and realized that if Pryor went to Michigan or Penn State he was fucked. That left him with little leverage over an 18 year old with an exaggerated sense of entitlement.

Universities are supposed to be ethical institutions, the foundation for the development of professionals who go about their daily lives in an ethical manner as the leaders of the nation. Ergo, the football programs they endorse to use their name and reputation should utilize "shut the fuck up" as a legal policy?

I expect the Yankees and Cowboys to lie and cheat. Their ethos is solely based on making money. I expect more from the teachers, doctors, lawyers, scientists, artists, and businessmen who graduate from Ohio State.

Personally, I think Urban Meyer often has played fast and loose with his rhetoric and promises. He once had a dream Shariff Floyd would play for Florida???

I appreciate that he came to Ohio State, won a national title, and kicked some Wolverine ass. That's what we needed him to him to do. But I never once considered him to be on par with Jim Tressel as a person and leader of men. Urban Meyer is a winner. He won. I thank him. We move on.

Florida should probably try doing the same some day. It’ll make those two national titles he won a little more enjoyable to let go of the hate for the man who won them.
