Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

Universities are supposed to be ethical institutions, the foundation for the development of professionals who go about their daily lives in an ethical manner as the leaders of the nation. Ergo, the football programs they endorse to use their name and reputation should utilize "shut the fuck up" as a legal policy?

I expect the Yankees and Cowboys to lie and cheat. Their ethos is solely based on making money. I expect more from the teachers, doctors, lawyers, scientists, artists, and businessmen who graduate from Ohio State.
You can expect more ..you won’t get it ...I assure there are a lot of “professionals “ and the “elite” in prisons. Hell in Illinois we have governors Chicago Alderman Congressmen Lawyers and Judges in and out all the time. Doctors committing Medicare fraud, Veterinarians falsifying health papers et al et al. Position in society does not guarantee ethical behavior.

Agreed. But not teaching and expecting ethical behavior will only add to their number.

Never forget a lecture by the Director of Instruction of the JAG school housed at UVA to my class at Command and General Staff College. "If you want to work in an ethical manner, make sure your boss is ethical."

He didn't cheat. He was put in an incredibly bad situation when a lawyer broke attorney client privelege to give him a tip that a few of his players were mixed up with some really shady dude.

The fact that he didn't delete the email should give you all the information you need about his desire to bend or break the rules. One click. That's all he needed for plausible deniability. Yet he didn't click. That lawyer had his license suspended by the way.

FWIW I believe he was finally disbarred last year after his fourth suspension. Cannot find confirmation. His name is off the sign of his old practice and it now shows his former partner Tim Dougherty Esq operating from the "Chris Cicero Law Building."

211 "NO" votes on the poll is absolutely stupid. I think Urban was born for the path he's on. Built his name in coaching and will ultimately be an AD and counselor to coaches and young people.

so the definition of ethical includes never telling a lie?

There aren't any ethical people on this planet then.

I'm fine with the idea of Meyer having the Head Coach Emeritus title like Earle did and being around the facility. Fine with him being on the department payroll and being a coach coach and doing fundraising duties and so on.

But under no circumstance should he have an "official" title such as A.D., Associate A.D., or whatever. The optics are terrible.

There are lies and there's repeatedly lying on a required NCAA statement and then lying to your bosses about it when called on the carpet, causing a national scandal for your employer and damaging their brand. Nothing that Woody or Urban ever did approaches that level of malfeasance. I love how people are so quick to start trashing Woody and Urban in a lame attempt to sanctify the Apossel Tressel and wash away his considerable sins.

The one good thing about Michael Drake leaving will be to watch all the Tressel disciples get their hopes up that he'll get the job when there is ZERO chance that he'd ever even be given an interview.

I have a hard time seeing it happening. These are the same football focused message boards that will declare it inevitable that the Apossel Tressel is about to replace Drake.
