Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

I'm starting to feel like we're not gonna be as happy with Urban soon... cuz I'm guessing he's gonna dent us a bit by taking Coach Mick and couple others.. I think he'll find a spot for Pantoni too.. those two are jugular cogs.. plus Hartline?

Best of luck to Urban. But he can no longer use his health as an excuse anymore, no one will take him seriously. And I'm sure now, his detractors will use it as it as confirmation of him leaving multiple schools. You don't leave the pressure of UF and OSU in CFB after you've won NCs with both and brought in a great amount of talent, to go to arguably the worst team and one of the most poorly run franchises in the NFL. Even with the #1 pick, thinking that Trevor Lawrence is going to win more than 4 games will be a herculean effort. Factor in that he can't recruit, player empowerment is in full swing, and disgruntled star players can force their way out(which Jacksonville has witnessed first hand), working with a salary cap, he's not exactly in a great position to have a stress free NFL tenure. But hey, good luck even if he raids the OSU staff, he's going to find out that college is much different than the NFL

If he takes all 3 of those guys...it's going to set OSU back quite a bit. Can't afford to lose these coaches n the 3rd year of Day's tenure, right after covid and before a rebuilding year.

Would definitely tell me he's not very concerned with OSU's future if you hire core program contributors away to coach at a bad NFL franchise that you probably won't be at for more than 4-5 years.

Early word is his calls have been to people with NFL experience and that he will not be raiding OSU’s staff. But that could obviously change.
I've heard that as well and I would be completely shocked if he pillaged our staff.

He always talked about leaving us with great infrastructure and the program in great condition. So now he just rips everything apart? Yeah I doubt it.

Maybe he takes 1 or 2 but I'd be shocked if he took some of our bigger contributors.

I also don't see this ending well. Maybe knowing you can lose multiple games and still win helps him have piece of mind after losing week 1? I doubt it helps him much though and I'd be damned surprised if he makes it more than 3 years. Obviously good luck to him though!

A LOT of insiders never truly thought health was the driving factor in retirement. They thought it was the excuse the university and Meyer settled on to allow him to continue coaching his last season, and then peacefully transition out under guise of health.

That said....I believe college coaches face far more pressure than NFL coaches. Every game in college is basically the playoffs. Lose a game and ultimate prize is lost.

The NFL has different challenges that are stressful, but for 17 weeks, while the expectation to perform is high, the pressure is nowhere near the level of a regular season college game, IMO.

I actually think Urban is smart enough to make a good NFL coach. He will have to tweak some of his “go to” techniques (the rah-rah stuff isn’t working on grown men making millions) but I think he understands the game at an exceptionally high level, and I think he’s a borderline psychologist. He understands people (players and staff) extremely well and think he has a high social IQ.

I believe he will hire a superb staff (even if we can bang on him for Zach Smith and Greg Schiano).....the overall core of his staff will be solid. I’m excited to see how it plays out.....I’ll def be pulling for the Jags. I want him to be successful.
