Monday presser this week cancelled due to scheduling conflict. Jerry Emig sent out a follow up notice to assure media that there were no health issues with Meyer, team members, or whatever after people lost their effing minds over Meyer skipping his first media obligation in six years.

This fucking fan base and media pool sometimes...

Can't wait to read the great content tomorrow and Tuesday until the Big Ten conference call, where 30 writers will basically have to make up 100 articles of content from whole cloth without a media session. Should be fun.

One guy made the assumption, because Urban was rightfully frustrated/annoyed with ST on Saturday every time the cameras panned onto him, that he was probably going to resign soon because he looks so fatigued. Are we getting Happy Valley castaways now?

They said on the radio that one of the players has a family member with a health issue and Urban canceled the presser in order to be there for that player. I hope it's nothing too serious but that's probably wishful thinking if it resulted in the cancellation of the weekly press conference.

Shades of the great Woody Hayes. I could totally see Hayes doing the same thing. Says volumes about Meyer the man.

Anyway, I'm sure that all our prayers are with the player and this family, whoever he may be.

    OhioState001 Go Buckeyes!

It's insane how much these coaches make. A WR coach at Ohio State is making more than many doctors. Not hating just saying it's kind of crazy.

    0.2-0.5m salary - 1.4-1.6m generated (with outliers of 2.7)

Now this is where the comparison gets tricky, as there's so many expenses and the revenue is complex:

    Ohio State coaches
    4.5m combined salary

    Ohio State football combined expenses

Ohio State football gross revenue (this is a year older):
(30m of athletic revenue is not attributed to any specific sport)

here's a link with some of the financial complexity:

People seem to want to look at this type of thing as an indictment of societies values. The fact that a doctor saving a life or a teacher positively impacting one is infinitely more valuable than a coach winning a football game, is not the right lens to use imo.

I would argue supply and demand have a lot more to do with it:

There are 130 FBS teams with 10 coaches per = 1,300

so you have 1,300 people contributing to a service that generates $7.3 Billion and has huge margins because they don't pay for labor

As opposed to the number of MD's in America= 923,000 in a lower margin business because of costs and commoditization

and the total number of public school k-12 Teachers = 3.2 million that are nothing more than a line item cost on a public service. There is no revenue.

Ohio State fans have one ongoing beef with Urban Meyer. He never got the tattoo he promised his team he'd get for beating Oregon in the inaugural College Football Playoff Championship Game.

Following his team's 42-35 win over Alabama in the 2015 Sugar Bowl, Meyer told his team he'd get a tattoo – likely a “Block O” – if they completed the journey with a championship win over the Ducks. Ezekiel Elliott, Cardale Jones, Joey Bosa and the rest of the Buckeyes delivered, but nearly three years later, Meyer still has a tat-free body.

    That may change. Maybe.

Meyer's wife, Shelley, appearing on the Eleven Dubcast Wednesday, gave an update of sorts on the Meyer family's tattoo plans.

“Urban and I made this pact when he got the Notre Dame receivers coaching job,” Shelley said. “We really thought we were going to win a national championship there. That was back in 1996. We made a pact: if we win a national championship at Notre Dame, we're getting the Fighting Irish leprechaun tattoo – for both of us. Well, we didn't win one there.

So when he wins 3 out of 4 he can just forget about the Florida crap altogether and put a giant Block O with several dates on it. Yep, that sounds better.
