It’s 100% possible since he’s done it before, but Ohio State was the right time and right situation. Ohio State is a Top 3 job in college football, if not Top 1. Big budgets, big resources, big results. USC? Maybe if he wants a house on the beach and nice weather? Notre Dame? It’s unique but it’s not Ohio State. He’s reached the apex of the sport at this level. Anything else would be Mack Brown going back to UNC.

But I bet he would be the best damn miniature ship in a bottle maker around.

Surpassing Rockne and Leahy for the coaching percentage record..... and doing it at ND, where both of them also coached, is something ND would like to see for continuity of legacy. How much will they offer him? Who knows. Will they? Almost certainly.

It's not tOSU and not a perfect fit for him, but it's a storied program, another "project program," he's only 54 and he's Catholic. Will Shelley let him do it? It'd be hard to stop him, but she is the only one who might be able to.

They will, I'm betting, within 3 years.

No, have to disagree. I see Meyer in the same role as. say, Barry Alvarez, Earle Bruce, and Woody Hayes, without the bad stuff. Maybe, with time, he might even have a radio/tv show. Nope, he's pure Buckeye. :urban2:

Or positively, maybe Day does well and is still just a placeholder for Meyer to unwind for 2 years and come back refreshed.

Day could succeed and not want to be at Ohio State long term. Who’s to say he isn’t open to moving on to a USC/Notre Dame/NFL/New Hampshire?

I hope Meyer stays around the OSU program for either scenario, just in case.

Brain cysts don't let you get "refreshed". He didn't retire because he was physically/mentally drained where taking some time off would recharge his batteries.

Not sure why Day would leave OSU if he succeeds. Any move to another coaching gig would be at best a lateral move. And if his success here approaches Tressel/Meyer level success and the NFL comes calling, you can bet that the university will open the vaults to keep him here.

I'd hope he is in WHAC discreetly and regularly..... and there's no way he cannot be involved to some extent for a year or two. tOSU Football is a huge beast and Day is (I hope) going to call early and call often.

Still, Meyer's work ethic and drive will only allow so much "easy money" from TV or "consulting and mentoring." He's earned it if he never steps on a practice field again, but I can't see it being satisfying for him.

I HOPE his health is fine and he's seen in the Shoe for years with his family on Saturdays. That's primary and beyond all of this.

If it is, I can't see him at 54 being able to hunt for shells on the beach every morning or get in 36 holes today because he can..... before reading a little background, hopping a plane, doing color/analysis on Saturday..... rinse and repeat.

Obviously, none of us know..... but that's a helluva good coaching mind that won't go gently into that dark night, IMO.

I wish him well and have been thankful to enjoy his work at tOSU, regardless of his life choices now.
