Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

I dunno... We scored more when he was gone

Oh, I "dunno" either. I for one was pretty happy with the score, especially against a team that we were going to destroy anyway. The second team needed those 2nd half reps.

At least the play makers will be healthy against St. Penn, and they're probably grateful to be relatively injury free. Just ask Nick Bosa.

WSJ has a story out about 15 minutes ago very negative of tOSU's investigation. Not gonna post it, as we had the Urban thread split to move forward, and not re-hash Zack stuff.

But the Zack story be like

The coach in waiting stuff being leaked on the day of Urban's return is a lil weird
Ari Wasserman was just on The Fan. Apparently he was the one who broke the "story." (Or is a rumor? I don't know.) Anyway, he claims it's something that has been discussed within the athletic dept. Not that it's something that's been discussed with Day.

I think it's a stupid idea. I don't see Urban leaving anytime soon and what's the point in naming a coach in waiting five years or more in advance? Remember when Texas named Will Muschamp their coach in waiting? How'd that work out for them? And Mack Brown was a lot closer to retirement age than Urban is. The thing is, for head coaches it's really easy to always want to coach "one more year."

If they're talking about this in the athletic dept. then what that tells me is that Gene has no list of potential replacements if something happens to Meyer. He got lucky that Urban was available when Tressel was fired. If Urban leaves for whatever reason, his job isn't going to be so easy.

Before Day gets the head coaching job at OSU I'd like to see him have some success as a head coach somewhere else. All he did was steer Urban's car for several weeks without driving it off the road. He needs to show that he can build his own car. Can he hire an elite staff? Can he recruit? Can he motivate? Can he design a practice schedule? Before he gets the job at OSU, does he understand the importance of the Michigan rivalry?"

I'd like to see Day stay on the staff but the coach in waiting idea is dumb. It rarely if ever works. I don't think Lincoln Riley was ever the coach in waiting at Oklahoma. It looks like Bob Stoops just saw that he had a suitable successor and he was ready to call it quits so he made the move. I want to say there was one successful coach in waiting transition that started this whole trend but my memory is failing me right now. But for the most part I think it's been shown to be a bad strategy.

Jimbo. And they had to force out Bobby to make it work.
Good call. Thank you.

I wonder if we would call it successful if not for Jameis Winston. Jimbo eventually got fired (and has been relegated to College Station). And then Bobby getting forced out gave fucking JoePa the all time wins record (illegitimate, imo). That whole competition between Bowden and Paterno was a mess.

Jimbo actually chose the freak show in College Station over the tight ships of Port Tallahassee.
