The Ohio State coach says his long-time friend told him about the situation months ago.
Tuesday morning, Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano’s name appeared in an unsealed deposition from former Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary, who claimed that Schiano was privy to sexual assault involving former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
Schiano, in a text message to NFL reporter Adam Schefter and from his own Twitter account, denied the allegations, saying that he was unaware of any abuse occurring while he coached at Penn State.
Now, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has weighed in, and he supports his assistant coach.
On Wednesday, The Toledo Blade spoke to Meyer at a golf event, where Meyer reiterated that he was aware of the allegations, and supported Schiano:
Meyer on Schiano: “I first heard about it several months ago and we had a long talk. I've known Greg for 20-some years. ... (1 of 3)

Meyer on Schiano: "I have as much respect for Greg Schiano as I do any person — not just any coach, any person. ... (2 of 3)

Meyer on Schiano: "He told me everything that happened. He stands by his statement and we stand by his statement. There's no issue."

The other assistant coach named in the deposition, former Penn State assistant and current UCLA defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, has also denied knowledge of Sandusky’s crimes while at Penn State.
