Usain Bolt (official thread of speed)

It was a decent start for him, but it could have been even better. He was ahead at 20 meters, but I'd say he was behind lane 3 at 10 meters.
I agree his start could be better but compared to his historic races he got out well. His height gives him a disadvantage coming out of the blocks compared to the shorter sprinters. They are able to get into their drive phase a bit quicker since they don't have to come up as much as Bolt does. I'm excited to see what he can do while he matures into the race a bit more. As he fine-tunes his race and especially his start I think a 9.4x is in his realm of possibility in the next few years.

It's amazing that he can take more than a full tenth off the record, and not have had an ideal start.
One of the articles I read said the 0.11 second margin is the largest improvement for the 100m since electronic timing began in 1968.

Agreed on his starts.

And yep, the second largest official lowering was .05, I believe. Although Ben Johnson once lowered it from 9.93 to 9.83. Hopefully that's the only comparison we'll have to make between Bolt and Ben.

Spolier alert for anyone who wants to watch this tonight..........

Bolt just ran a 19.19, breaking his previous WR time of 19.30. Dude is insane! 4 other runners were also under 20 seconds... another fast final at these world championships.
BTW BB73, he had the fastest reaction time at the start too :)

Another improvement of a WR by 0.11. Unreal

As this adds just 9.61 seconds to his hundred meters, and since many are expecting low 9.4x times out of him in the future... could this guy actually break 19.00 seconds???

Jamaica my slow-white-ass. This guys is from Krypton.

Another WR coming

I think that he could probably break the long jump WR without too much practice. I might be wrong but with all the speed that he would bring to the board it might even come pretty easily. Interesting that he does not want to run the 400. I don't know about another WR in that event but I don't see many people beating him because he would be so far ahead after 200 m, guys would be hard pressed to catch him.

Bolt says he wants to try long jump

ZURICH (AP) -- Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt says he wants to try a new event - the long jump.

The world-record holder in the 100 and 200 meters says he thinks he could be a good long jumper some day.

Bolt says he has been "messing around" with the long jump since high school and would like to compete in the event before he retires.

While he's willing to try a new event, he says he has no plans to run the 400.

Usain Bolt beats Justin Gatlin to win 100-meter title at world championship

i

After two years of uncertainty, Usain Bolt produced his biggest clutch performance to beat rival Justin Gatlin in the 100-meter world championship final with a lunge at the line in the biggest showdown in years.

Bolt, of Jamaica, was trailing for almost all of Sunday's race, but with gritted teeth, the two-time Olympic champion clawed back into contention and made his giant stride count to win in 9.79 seconds -- .01 seconds over the American veteran.
