Report: Trojans WR Munir McClain suspended amid possible fraud probe

A USC Trojans football player was suspended last month by the school in connection to a possible federal investigation into fraud related to the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

Sophomore wide receiver Munir McClain has been suspended since mid-September, his mother, Shan McClain told the Times. But she said the school has not given her or her son a clear reason for the suspension. Michael Blanton, USC's vice president of ethics and professionalism, told Shan that Munir's name surfaced in relation to a complaint that had been filed involving USC students and a plan to apply for Employment Development Department benefits, the Times reported.

Munir acknowledged he applied for financial relief from the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program but was under the impression he qualified because his source of income -- reselling high-end shoes -- had dried up during the pandemic, the Times reported. A lawyer representing the McClain family told the Times they planned to challenge the suspension.

"We are cooperating with the authorities," USC said in a statement. "We understand there may be many questions and concerns, but we are unable to discuss this matter because of our obligation to protect students' privacy."

Not sure if that is an update but it sounds like they are having some fun in the sun right now.

So one of the investigators, Cynthia Penilla, left a business card for him identifying her as a special agent in the U.S. Department of Labor-Office of Inspector General. The card also said she was in the Office of Labor Racketeering and Fraud Investigations.

That isn't the NCAA asking questions

Former USC Trojans star Reggie Bush believes Heisman Trophy, college statistics should be restored

On a day when college athletes were officially granted rights to profit off their names, images and likenesses, former USC running back Reggie Bush made it clear he believes the Heisman Trophy he won in 2005 should be returned and his college statistics reinstated.

"It is my strong belief that I won the Heisman trophy 'solely' due to my hard work and dedication on the football field and it is also my firm belief that my records should be reinstated," Bush said in a statement.

Bush returned his Heisman Trophy after a four-year extra-benefits investigation determined that he and family members, while he was a student-athlete, accepted cash, travel expenses and a home in the San Diego area where Bush's parents lived rent-free for more than a year and were provided $10,000 to furnish.

Sanctions from the investigation, which came in 2010, mandated that Bush disassociate from USC and included a two-year postseason ban for the school, 14 vacated victories (including the 2004 BCS national championship) and the loss of 30 scholarships. His 10-year disassociation period ended in June 2020.

In the statement, Bush said he and his team have reached out to both the Heisman Trust and the NCAA on multiple occasions and indicated that the outreach has not resulted in any progress.

Just sayin': Hey, if Reggie gets his Heisman back, Ohio State should have all the vacated wins for "Tattoo gate" unvacated.....

James Franklins name is already getting tossed out for the job by talking heads.

That would trigger a comical meltdown by the cult.

And it would also keep USC from getting to the level they think they should be at.

Franklin going to USC is what we would call a WIN-WIN....
