USC vs. OSU: A fun Idea for a Prediction Thread

Here's how it goes: We all briefly post reasons why OSU will win or lose, then reasons why USC will win or lose, then post a final score prediction. This should give a nice overview of the strengths and weaknesses the fans see in both teams and how it will eventually play out on the field.

I'll start.

OSU:

Why they will win: A healthy Beanie Wells and their secondary.

Why they will lose: Boeckman and their defensive line

USC:

Why the will win: Their defensive back seven and running backs.

Why the will lose: Their O Line and youth on offense.

Final Score prediciton:

USC-28
OSU-24

I'll bite

USC wins because, Jeez, they have a ton of talent w/speed and they're at home.

USC loses because OSU blitzes the hell out of Pancho Villa

OSU wins because the O-line has a cranial - rectalectomy this week and gives Boekman the time Robo and Hartline need to get open

OSU loses because the tackles can't keep USC out of the backfield.

Score: 35 - 14 USC

I once thought this game would be close. Two weeks of threes in lieu of sixes have changed my mind.

Hahaha! As simple as that is, I think that if Beanie Wells really does show up at 100% and breaks out, OSU may very well win just because he said so. He's that good and I think USC's fans and coaches know it. I certainly know I do.

Yeah, I was kinda bein' a smartass, but I really believe that Beanie is the key either way. There hasn't been a defense yet that could stop him, including LSU. I just hope the Bucks take his lead, and that he's able to go.

OSU Wins: Because Tressel and Co. were really purposely calling the most bland games of their lives the last two weeks and decide to open it up.

OSU Loses: Neither line gets their act together and they play like they're from the Sun Belt instead of the Big-10.

USC Wins: They have the perfect mix of passing and running and keep our D off balance all game long.

USC Loses: They don't have a solid 3rd down conversion pctg. and are -2 or wose in TO margin. Oh, and the Pac-10 refs decide to actually call a fair game. :tongue2:

USC: 30
tOSU: 17

I was very confident heading into the year but the way our OL and receivers have played against poor competition makes it impossible for me to pick us to win. I'll believe we can play with a team like USC when I see it and I sincerely hope I do. I do appreciate BUCKYLE's optimism though.

tOSU wins: Boeckman manages the game, Beanie grinds down the USC defense. tOSU recievers finally realize their potential. The defense pressures and rattles Sanchez.
tOSU loses: Boeckman continues to lock on recievers. Recievers can't create seperation allowing usc defense to key on Wells.

USC wins: USC OL handles tOSU front 7 and gives Sanchez time. McKnight has explosive game.
USC loses: Young OL can't protect Sanchez. Can't contain Beanie Wells.

Prediction: 31-21 USC.

I was a lot more confident 3 days ago, but right now we're seeing the same mistakes/weaknesses from late last season.

Why OSU will win: Beanie Wells is healthy and we are able control the ball. Our d-line gets some pressure on Sanchez and forces him to make some mistakes.
Why OSU will lose: Either Beanie isn't healthy or Beanie is healthy and the o-line collapses. Boeckman gets pressured or the pocket falls apart and he makes mistakes.

Why USC will win: Beanie Wells is injured or the speedy defense is able to shut down the passing game by getting pressure on Boeckman and our receivers can't get separation.

Why USC will lose: A very inexperienced, but talented offense going against a talented and seasoned defense. In my honest opinion this is the key to the game. USC is loaded with potential on offense, but they are very inexperienced. I'm not going to draw any conclusions from the Virginia game because we don't really know what kind of competition they were facing, but I think it's certainly a possibility that USC could look that good. Then again I think their inexperience could easily show and they make mistakes that allow us to get sacks and turnovers.

Prediction: OSU 28 USC 21

Ohio State will win because: Beanie Wells rushes for over 150 yards and the defense forces turnovers.

Ohio State will lose because: The defense can't get to Sanchez and Boeckman doesn't take care of the ball.

USC will win because: Their depth of talent forces the Ohio State defense on its heals and the Trojan defense shuts down Beanie Wells.

USC will lose because: If their offensive line can't protect Sanchez, he will not be able to protect the ball.

USC 42 Ohio State 17

OSU wins...Beanie plays, Saine catches passes out of the backfield, and Pryor shines in spot duty

OSU loses...O line doesn't show up (1st half OU), D doesn't cause havoc in SC backfield

USC wins....their O line contains our D (doesn't allow penetration)

USC loses...our D plays lights out

OSU 31
USC 18

Why SC will win: Sanchez plays the game of his life.
Why SC will lose: Inexperienced OTs. Immobile QB. Beanie.

Why OSU will win: Beanie Wells & ability to contain runs to the outside.
Why OSU will lose: Asking players to do what they are incapable of doing.

Final score: OSU 28 SC 24

OSU wins if the D puts pressure on Sanchez all night, the o-line dominates the line of scrimmage with a healthy Beanie, TB makes great reads with the football and JT pulls some creative play-calling out of his hat
OSU loses if the play calling is vanilla, the rushing game doesn't get going, we can't put pressure on Sanchez

USC wins if Sanchez has all day to throw, their D pressures TB into some bad decisions, they stop the OSU running game
USC loses if the o-line can't give Sanchez time to throw or they get complacent

I hate this but:
USC 31
OSU 13

OSU wins if the offense doesn't give USC short fields making it almost impossible for our D to not give up points. Even if Beanie plays I don't think he will be 100%. I think it will boil down to our passing game, they will set up to stop the run and let Boekman and our receivers beat them. So we will need our passing game to loosen up the run defense for us to win.

OSU loses if we get off to a slow start, get behind and have to rely on our passing game. Boekman seems to have happy feet and is pulling it down to run way to much. He needs to throw the ball away more if nothing is there. There won't be any getting away from USC.

USC wins if they force the big mistake early and jump out to a lead.

USC loses if we shut the crowd up early and they can't stop the time consuming drives.

I too was pretty confident that we would win this game this summer, but it looks like nothing has been fixed. Boekman still looks like he did at the end of last year. The pulling it down and running has to stop. I'm not sure where that came from but he really needs to trust his line because he won't be able to run against USC. No one is afraid of our receivers and if they can't get open against OU, good luck with USC. Even with Beanie back, the trojans will be able to stop the run. If our receivers can't get open. I think our defense will keep it close but our offense gets bogged down without Beanie 100%.

USC 24
OSU 20
(offense only scores 2FG, defense and Special teams score twice)

OSU wins because: Beanie rushes for more than 150 yards, defense gets pressure on Sanchez, offense doesn't turn the ball over.

OSU loses because: Offensive line can't get any push, defensive line can't pressure Sanchez, offense can't finish with 6 in the red zone.

USC wins because: Defensive back seven isn't forced to respect the pass and shuts down Beanie. Offensive line delivers on potential and keeps Sanchez vertical.

USC loses because: Offensive line wilts under a bright spotlight, Sanchez gets smacked around. Defensive front 7 can't get penetration and keep Beanie from reaching the second level, where he proceeds to stiff arm the living hell out of anything that moves.

Prediction: USC 42, OSU 17. The offensive line has looked so bad the past two weeks that I can't see this going well.
