Two Utah players in serious condition after being shot, police searching for suspects

Utah left guard Lo Falemaka and running back Marcel Brooks-Brown were shot at a party Saturday night as a fight broke out. The Salt Lake Tribune reports authorities are searching for three suspects in the case. Both Utah players are currently in serious condition but stable and expected to recover, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

“Obviously, our first concern is that both Lo and Marcel are going to be OK, which appears to be the case,” Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said in a released statement. It was Whittingham that confirmed the identities of the injured players, as the police did not release the names of the shooting victims. “We don’t have all of the details yet, but it is our understanding that they are the victims in this incident and we feel very fortunate that they are expected to fully recover,” he stated. “It is unknown at this time how soon they will be able to return to the football field, but we are optimistic it will be in the near future.”

According to the early reports of the incident, three male suspects showed up at a party without an invitation and refused to leave when asked. As the two Utah players intervened, a fight broke out and one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired at both players. The suspects fled the scene and have been eluding police since the authorities were made aware of the situation.

Falemaka is a walk-on offensive lineman for the Utes. Brooks-Brown is a freshman and has not appeared in either of Utah’s first two games against Michigan or Utah State.

Nothing says big time like being bowl eligible.

They are still undefeated. They should act like, but they have never been here before (while P5). They should only have Pasadena, Tempe, and Phoenix on there. I mean if they end up at the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl (WTF?) after this start they might want to hang it up.
