VA LB Shawn Murphy (Alabama Verbal)

Maybe a dumb question, but why is Alford (rb coach) mentioned time and again calling Shawn? Thought Washington was lb coach.....I get that maybe that 'territory' is Alford's, but am confused why his potential position coach isn't phoning/texting/virtual communicationing him. PS, we have seen some recruits doing a nice job on peer recruiting, but Hicks is showing a high ceiling in the 2022 class. Gotta love it. His subtle approach seems to be working better than the high pressure pitch. Go Bucks!

I believe OSU coaches recruit territories/areas not positions specifically. I'm sure Washington is in on conversations but maybe Murphy hit it off really well with Alford so he continues to be the point-man in his recruitment.

I like how OSU does this. I think is helps minimize the mass exodus at one position group if a coach decides to move on like you sometimes see at other schools.

He's trending to the good guys. Keep it up.

-Murphy isn’t planning on deciding soon and wants to take as many visits as possible. He says he’s got great relationships with the staff at Ohio State and singles out how well they support their athletes.

This one seems too quiet for me to believe it's a realistic possibilty he ends up @ OSU as well. Bucknuts doesn't even have him in their top 48 prospects OSU is targeting as realistic possibilities in the class, with Walker being the only remaining LB they are targeting.

I think it’s pretty clear OSU purposefully slowed this recruitment down.

That might change when Walker commits to Clemson, which is coming up soon but I don’t feel like looking at the exact date.

Or, if Walker shocks the world and commits to Ohio State that provides resolution here as well because it seems unlikely Ohio State would take both.

Agree with @Buckeye86 , losing Walker pushes Murphy into his spot, most likely. We need another true LB in this class

Not a bad top 5. I'm thinking (hoping?) that his great relationship with CJHicks will help swing him toward the good guys. Like the LB cordwood that's been stacked up the past several years. Problem seems how to get them on the field for meaningful snaps. Current crop of LBs have practiced, and waited patiently for their chance to impress. Maybe it's my scarlet-tinted glasses, but have a good feeling about the back seven this year (or eight depending), and maybe Shawn will notice how Al W. coaches these kids up. Either way, tOSU will be good to go at the position. Go Bucks!
