vBook: Tenn 30, LSU 27 (Final, OT)

Will Tennessee jump us??

Let me preface this post by saying that I think we deserve to be ahead of Tennessee in the polls. I watched that game, and UT in the first half looked like a team that didn't even deserve to be in the top 25, whereas we pounded a good (but not great) Iowa team and made them look like they're not even in the same class as we are.

However, unfortunately, I think UT will jump us in the polls, and here's why.
The fact that the game was moved to Monday night hurts us. If the game would have been played on Saturday night, their performance would have been matched up against our crushing win against Iowa, in which case I think the pollsters realize that we are the better team, as we didn't look bad for a half, as did UT. However, the pollsters are, at the end of next week (assuming a UT win, if they play) going to think that they have to reward UT for the big win against LSU, which they haven't done yet. That fact, coupled with the fact that we do not play (which will temporarily put us out of the heads of those idiot pollsters), will elevate UT ahead of us, I think.

That's my analysis. I hope I'm wrong. I honestly think we're the better team, and I hope what I wrote doesn't come true.

buckeyeboy - I agree that the Vols were definitely a team that only came into sync for just over one half last night. However, credit where credit is due, they "deferred" their good play to the "right" half of the game.

I think some voters may give them extra credit for pulling off a good comeback. The out-of-sync scheduling doesn't seem to me as big a factor as the manner in which they overcame adversity in pretty difficult surroundings.

One can only hope enough pollsters recognize it took two to make the comeback happen. LSU booted this game as much as the Vols took it by the scruff of the neck. Poor clock management by their young QB robs the Tigers of an opportunity to tack on what would have been a mighty fat FG at the half.

Great result for OSU. There's no way Tennessee wins out and stays ahead of us, IF they jump us in the polls. Both teams looked ugly. Bob Davie described it well when he said, well its been ugly, but even uglier for the guys in orange (description at halftime). Ainge didn't play badly, but I wonder if he was throwing too hard for his unfocused WRs. They better keep Clausen in there, it's pretty obvious that the team rallies under him better (b/c Ainge's passed accurately to no avail)

The WRs were not impressive. The RBs were, but that was some sloppy defense. The defensive lines were disruptive, but the back seven looked like UM half of the time. The entire first half, Tennessee's back seven seemed to stop pursuing once they got blocked or the play went away from them. LSU wasn't much better. How many times in this game did you see someone 20 yards open? I didn't count, but it seemed like more than half a dozen. These are elite athletes that have no business looking like Texas Tech on defense.

Les Miles is in for a long week.

Phil Fulmer is a fat miserable cheating asshole; however, giving credit where credit is due.

After trailing 21-0 and playing terrible the entire first half, he must of gave one hell of a half time talk that could rival Knute Rockne's let's win one for the Gipper speech.

Are you giving Ainge a free pass on the ball he flung over the line from the back of the end zone, giving LSU a free TD? That was one of the worst QB plays of the past several years.

But I agree that his receivers let him down in the first half.

It's like you said, his WRs were already on the bench for another 3 and out when they lined up outside. If they would have caught anything, they might have been closer. LSU was only slightly less ugly early on, and would have struggled to score if not for great field position.

How can a man as big as Phil Fulmer be coaching a sport that requires you to be in great shape

Phil Fulmer coaching football is like a sumo wrestler coaching track and field, its just not meant to be

Phil has a great matchup with Charlie Weis coming up later in the year.

First one to complete 2 laps around the field, without oxygen or medical assistance, will be declared the winner.

i think that one will end up in a "No Contest" or a "Tie"

I'm calling for a Dead Heat.

On a totaly different track anyone catch the commentators bending over backward to soften the revelation that 14 Vol players were arrested or cited since February 2004.

Words like "I think we have to recognize that this a particularly sensitive subject .. certainly the best thing if for the Seniors on the team to hold everyone in line"

Alamo Bowl, compare & contrast
