TE Gee Scott Jr. (Official Thread)

That was definitely one of the coolest commitment videos I've seen. Very well done and respectful, but definitely gets you amped up. Gee is a serious talent and amazing addition to the 2020 class. Would post my typical GIF but I'm mobile. Hats off to Hartline and Day on this one. Already off to a great start on 2020, keep the train rolling. Welcome aboard Gee!

Ohio State Commitment Impact: Wide Receiver Gee Scott

Ohio-State-football-wide-receiver-Gee-Scott.jpg

Washington wide receiver Gee Scott committed to Ohio State on Tuesday and in so doing he became the second receiver in the Buckeyes’ 2020 recruiting class.

Player: Gee Scott (Eastside Catholic High School, Sammamish WA)

Position: Wide Receiver

Ranking:Composite 4-Star | No. 15 WR | No. 70 Player Overall

Gee Scott, Jr. is a 4-star wide receiver out of Sammamish, Washington who caught 48 passes for 654 yards and six touchdowns this past season as a junior, earning First-Team All-State honors in the process.

Scott (6-3 211) is a physical receiver with size who attacks the football and then attacks the first-down marker. He also has the ability to break a tackle and do much more than simply move the chains.

The Comparison

Scott has a similar game to current Buckeye wideout Austin Mack. Mack plays the X position, which is what Scott projects to as well.

The X is asked to be the guy to pick up first downs in one-on-one coverage at the sticks. It requires strength, size, quickness, and outstanding hands. Scott has that skill set, and is also dangerous in the red zone, like OSU’s other X receiver Binjimen Victor.

Here’s a few examples.

The Fit

Ohio State’s offense requires three starting receivers — the Z, the X, and the H, and three co-starters — so the Buckeyes like to bring in as many receivers as they can in each class to fill out those needs.

However, Ohio State has not yet added a projected X receiver in the 2019 class, so Scott could work his way into the two-deep perhaps earlier than expected.

When he does arrive, regardless of the depth chart, if he continues to do things like this, he will see the field early.

SKULL SESSION: DWAYNE HASKINS COULD BE THE DRAFT'S TOP QB, ROB SIMS' IMPACT ON GEE SCOTT JR., AND JOEY VELAZQUEZ TALKS SMACK

ROB SIMS SAVED A LIFE
. Gee Scott Jr., the Buckeyes' most recent commit, doesn't have any direct Ohio State connections, but there is one event that helped plant the seeds early in his childhood.

A former Buckeye saved his father's life.

From Brandon Huffman of Bucknuts:

When Scott Sr. was at his lowest point, in 2009, Sims gave him a place to stay when Scott Sr. was living out of his car.

At that point, his boys were living with their mom.

But when it was time for them to visit dad, they had a place to go.

Every other weekend, when Scott Sr., had his two sons, they would stay in the room with their dad, in Sims' house.

Almost a decade ago, a former Buckeye star helped the Scott family, in ways the younger Scott didn't fully realize or understand, and the first seeds for Ohio State were planted.

...

"Rob Sims saved my life," Gee Scott Sr. said. "Rob gave me a place to stay when I was living out of my car for a little bit. He saved my life. He gave me a room in his house and allowed my boys to come stay when I would get them every other weekend. I was battling depression and had given up on life."

That's why this commitment to the Buckeyes means more than just a chance to play in the Big Ten.

"This commitment is more than football," said Scott Sr.

Scott said he never thought his son, from the pacific northwest, would ever be recruited by Ohio State. I don't think any party is upset that he was wrong.
