Washington Commanders (official thread)

Is this a race card question?
It’s a question about what constitutes the opportunities some get over others. Haskins goes for 345 yds, 0 picks, and a 1 rushing TD against one of the best Ds in the NFL and is sent to the bench, while being publicly trashed by Rivera. Allen hands the game to the Giants and Rivera says they’re headed in the right direction.

Just pondering why other first round picks get multitudes of opportunity to grow. Hell Rosen got little opportunity either. Mariotta got quite a bit of opportunity.

Sources: Washington Football Team QB Kyle Allen expected to undergo surgery on injured ankle

Allen suffered the injury in Washington's 23-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday. Rivera would only say after the game that Allen dislocated the ankle but he needed to speak more with the trainers.

Rivera said Smith will start next week at Detroit, with Dwayne Haskins elevated to the No. 2 position. It will be Smith's first start since Nov. 18, 2018, when he suffered a broken fibula and tibia in his right leg.

"You have a very veteran quarterback who has helped nurture some good young quarterbacks," Rivera said of Smith. "He's showed them how to prepare and study for a game. This is good for Dwayne. He'll get an opportunity to see how to truly prepare for a game as a starter and hopefully Dwayne will take it that this is an opportunity to learn and grow. He may get an opportunity again shortly. He has to be ready and prepare as if he's one play away."

Just sayin': Dwayne just moved up tp #2 on the depth chart. Alex Smith is not the QB he used to be and his stats so far this season bear that out. Before the end of the season it wouldn't surprise me if Dwane became the starter again for Washington. Baring any free agent signing, Washington's only other option at QB would be Steven Montez from their practice squad.

QB Dwayne Haskins to start for Washington Football Team vs. Seattle

Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith was ruled out of Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks with a strained right calf, putting the team's four-game winning streak and the NFC East lead in jeopardy.

Smith will be replaced by second-year QB Dwayne Haskins against the Seahawks (9-4). Haskins will make his first start since a Week 4 loss to Baltimore. Coach Ron Rivera benched Haskins after that game, saying the team wanted to see more growth -- and multiple sources in the organization said he needed to do more preparation while not at the facility.

Now he'll be tasked with helping Washington's playoff chances. The team is 6-7 and owns a one-game lead over the New York Giants in the NFC East.

"I would say I'm pretty resilient," Haskins said. "Life gets at you fast, and the biggest thing you can do is stand in the fire and walk through the flame and that's what I did."

Rivera said he just wants Haskins to be consistent.

"Dwayne has worked hard. He's paid attention and has watched. I believe he's learned," Rivera said.

After putting in extra work, Haskins said he will be "calm and cool, collected, confident. ... When I was playing previously, I was so caught up in trying to make big plays, trying to show I belonged. Well, I'm here. It's time."

If I could say one thing, that one thing would be FUCK Ron Rivera.....

Haskins has problems too; but, he's getting yet another chance.

Washington Football Team to start Dwayne Haskins at QB vs. Carolina Panthers, source says

Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins will start Sunday against the Carolina Panthers with starter Alex Smith expected to be inactive for the second straight week with a calf injury, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Haskins was fined and removed from his role as a team captain Tuesday by coach Ron Rivera after he was photographed at an event with strippers while not wearing a mask. Sources told ESPN that the fine was for $40,000.

Haskins apologized to his teammates and took starter reps in practice this week.

"I know my team needs me," Haskins said Tuesday. "I need to step up to the plate and I can't be selfish and I need to stop getting in my own way. I'm putting things in motion as far as a plan for myself to be a better teammate and be more accountable and fix my issues that have brought me to this situation."

Washington can win the NFC East title on Sunday with a win and a loss by the New York Giants, who play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
