We now have a front page

Clarity

The stats engine is still a ways off, but we now have the basic framework for the front page that it will be built around.

http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/

Feel free to load it up, if anything's broken or strange, please let me know.

There are just a few posts that have been flagged as "news" for now. That will be more fleshed out with real updates from around the web and from the team in the future.

Looks really good Clarity. The only thing I might offer is that the calendar is static, it doesn't link to the actual dynamic (informative) calendar. When I click on a week or a day I get something like this:

Not Found
The requested URL /calendar.php was not found on this server.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Apache/1.3.28 Server at cinnmon.bryants.net Port 80

It would be nice if it could take you to the actual day's (or weeks/month's) events. BTW, who is cinnmon? J/K

The only other thing I might add is that the headers for the articles (which are actually links) aren't readily apparent as links (not underlined, etc.). It's not intuitive to click on them ... not a big point and it didn't take too long to figure out. Everything else seems to be working fine for me.

Thanks, I'll look into all of those.

For the time being, there isn't going to be much use for the front page. At present it's more just an overview of what's going on in the forums. When the stats engine gets put in place, part of the coding is going to entirely transform that front page. We'll have random player mini-profiles up on there linking back to their full profiles, dynamic updating of seasonal stats and categorical leaderboards. Recruit profile update linking, news items from around the web that get sucked in automatically. Current season schedule and results with links to engine-based boxscores... To put it in American Chopper terms, it's just going to be sick.

I could go on and on, and it really wouldn't paint a clear picture of how it's all going to look and work when it's done.

But that's up now to form the basic building blocks, and to finally get rid of that temporary page that went up a year ago saying "the forum is here, the chat page is here", etc.

Also,

I tried to vote on the poll as to how many games OSU will win next (or is it this??) year. It told me there was an error and I wasn't entitled to vote??? Might want to check that out as well....

Done, fixed, done and done. :)

Anyone noticing anything else?

Just remember, that front page is going to be pretty boring for a while. Just an extension of the board until the real content management system is fitted into place.

When I attempt to post on the "How many games will Buckeyes win this Year", I gfet "Sorry. This form not accepting new posts." I got the same messege when attempting a Quick Reply, after I had typed it in.

everything is looking pretty good. i would suggest that we not call the two message board threads offensive/defensive database so they aren't confused with the actual database. as for what i would call them (other than an excellent compilation of recruiting factoids and tidbits) i have no clue.

Clarity, I just tried to get to the arcade link by clicking on the option for it at the top of the page but keep getting "page could not be found". All the other links at the top work. Might want to check that out.

Edit: Just tried the same link at the top of the "old" front page and it worked fine.....
