What book are you currently reading, or recommend?

Been hearing about this one for years, not sure why I resisted reading it...hell it's awesome. Plus it is ripe with Ohio/Columbus references throughout..including a special extensive tribute to Middletown, Ohio of all places! It's filled with a massive amount of great 80's references, and is about to be a big time movie directed by Spielberg.

Read it now if you haven't already, then you will likely be pretty pumped for the upcoming movie.

Just picked up on Amazon. Destined to be an all time sci-fi classic up there with Neuromancer.

The Jerry West book was really a great read. It wasn't the typical rah-rah bio, look how fantastic I am book. He gave what appeases to be an honest assessment of everything and everyone. I wasn't aware of the the mental problems (depression, anxiety, etc.) that he suffers from.

Boy oh boy, with another new trailer out, I wonder: is there a more hated recent book than Ready Player One?

I read this on a work trip over the summer and thought it was an absolute blast of a travel read. Okay, it's not going to end up in a Norton Anthology of English Literature, and it's (by design) not the most original story out there, but it's highly readable and entertaining, and it hit at just the right moment for this type of 80s/90s nostalgia. And then they actually get Spielberg to do the movie?!? C'mon son!

Sorry for partying, culture snobs and Kinja commenters: you're missing out on a hell of a lot of fun with this one.

Finished JD Vance's Hillbilly Elegy over the weekend:

I'm not usually one for modern memoirs, but this one came through my office and the Ohio/OSU connection intrigued me (Vance graduated from Middletown HS and tOSU). It's a breeze of a read about Vance's Kentucky hillbilly roots and the culture that followed his family to Ohio, and he has a lot of compassion for the type of poor white folks who are not getting much of that these days.

With my work, I drive a lot and let someone else read to me

Ender's Game (Alive): http://a.co/eNYbHzT

Full Cast Audioplay. This was free for Amazon prime members awhile back, not sure about now (it gets confusing with Audible membership trumping the prime access).

Really enjoyed this book and audio production (which are two very different things). The movie was average at best, but there's a lot of depth and social commentary built into this unique sci-fi classic.

Speaker for the Dead - far less accessible, so I get why it wasn't that popular, but this dives much deeper into the sociological issues and fallout of the first book. The author said he wrote Ender's Game just to be able to write this book, and in a lot of ways I think this is a much stronger installment.
