What book are you currently reading, or recommend?

Usually I read fun books, in part because my reading usually coincides with trips and vacations.

Odd Thomas
Sam Capra
Jack Reacher

Those are a lot of fun but not necessarily the type you recommend in this thread. Recently, I came across this excellent mystery:

The Dry

This is a really intriguing novel, with a very different pace and style from most. It fits perfectly with the setting and storyline. It's even more impressive when you learn it's a debut novel. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out. FWIW seems it already has a sequel and a movie is being developed.

She is prolific..since The Dry she has already published three more.

The "Getting To Us" book was kind of interesting. It was a mini-bio on several coaches and what made then a great coach, etc. Apparenty Urban's "medical problems" (especially when at Florida) were a little worse than just severe headaches.

Also there was an interesting fact about Harbaugh that I'll post in his thread.....

The Brett Farve book was just a collection of SI articles/photos. All 4 of the other books were pretty good. I did think Reggie was over doing it in his book by just beating a ̶d̶e̶a̶d̶ ̶h̶o̶r̶s̶e̶ actually a dead former washed up ball player/manager, alcoholic, and/or barroom brawler. Jackson's a Hall Of Fame player and everyone knows that he wasn't initially welcomed to the "Bronz Zoo" especially by Billy Martin. He should have taken the "high road" and just not have done the book the way he did it. It was interesting that Jackson credits Thurman Munson with first calling him Mr. October; however, when he did it it was a sarcastic comment. After The Boss had promised Thurman he would be the highest paid Yankee, Jackson got a free agent contract making him more money. Supposedly Thurman got a raise to the same annual salary (plus $1); however, he was still mad that he didn't get a new car and the deferred many that Reggie got.

Also, it was interesting to read that Agassi really did not like tennis. He had an overbearing father that made him play at a very young age. Basically he wasn't too interested in school either and dropped out several years before actually graduating from high school, etc. He pointed out that tennis was the only thing he was good at and was his best shot at making the most money. He didn't have any other education, skills, and/or occupation to fall back on. He had a failed marriage to Brooke Shields; however, he says he is currently happily married to Stefanie Graf. They have 30 Grand Slam titles between them. Apparently Graf also had an overbearing father that had her hitting tennis balls while she was still in diapers. Agassi and Graf have two kids and he wrote that they won't be forced into playing any tennis at a young age like they were, etc .
