What does it mean to "mount" an image...

... in referance to using Daemon tools. I know absolutely nothing about using Daemon tools. Could someone please spell it out for me? I will be downloading Daemon tools when I get home and would love an overview to read before trying to figure out how to use it.

No prob.

Daemon tools gives you up to 4 more virtual CD/DVD drives on you computer. Instead of disks, you use images. An image may be a .iso, .mdf, .mds, and/or many other formats. The image is an exact copy of the information on a cd in a file format (think of burning a copy of a disk, but to a file instead of another disk). Mounting means that you are loading that image into your virtual drive to use/read. It's a fairly straightforward process of installing and then mounting the image. I'm here if you've got any other questions.

I'm starting to get the picture in a general sense. So lets say , hypothetically, If I had an .mdf and/or .mds file (such as a game file)on my computer. Would I put it on the virtual drive and then install it from the virtual drive or can you somehow run it without having it installed. I think I know the answer to this one but just want to make sure.

That depens on the application. If the program on the CD is made to install, then it will install from the drive (you can access the virtual drives from 'My Computer' just like your normal drive). If the program is made to just run, then you can just run it.

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to post until this morning. I ended up using the virtual drive to "mount" the image and then installed from that image. After doing that it wouldn't work. It said it detected that I was using the virtual drive and wouldn't let me run the game (don't remember exact terminology). Late last night I had an idea that ended up working. It wouldn't let me run the program from the virtual drive but I also had the game installed on my computer so I went to GamCopyWorld and downloaded the "No CD" patch/file for the game and replaced it and it worked just fine. Thanks!
