What have we learned now that Smith just led our team to a second straight win?

Insider
Here we are, late in the year and our buckeyes have accomplished a 5-3 record while just beating two powerhouse opponents Indiana and Penn State.

Smith was very impressive against IU running and passing the ball well against the worst team in the big ten. He showed great leadership through his teammates after the bucks have taken a lot of harsh criticism from both the fare weather fans and a local ESPN broadcaster that at times has given our team an un-inspired feeling inside. Yet Smith has shown maturity coming off the bench and has confidence in all aspects of his game. He has not thrown a single interception to date and is clearly the better running QB on this team. And still there is some doubt in a lot of our minds about if he is the QB of the future, Passing 6-8 and for 59 yds (short passes) wont get it done every week.

Swick on the other hand did not go out shining. Even though he was throwing the ball a lot more in every game he played in, he has 6 INT's for the year. Because of our ailing running game at the time, passing was our ONLY option resulting in a predictable offence. In the pocket Swick has shown some signs of poise in the pocket but not as much as Smith so far in his two games. If we can judge the opponents of Swick and Smith, and how well our defense has played in each game it gets to be a harder answer to name the QB of the future. I think that our team is improving at running the ball and at the WR position as well.

Objectively I don’t know about what the outcome of yesterday’s game if our defense had not made those two INT's, one of them for a TD. The stats told us that PSU ran on us pretty well, while passing was only 69 yds, and 1st downs were 18 vs. 13 for PSU's favor. Time of possession was also in their favor 32.44 vs. 27.16, while special teams may have made a huge difference for the bucks again giving us 251 yds on 4 kickoffs. Ginn was again impressive and smith played solid while we got to see some new young talent for the Buckeyes.

I think that the coaches have learned a few things about this team and what don’t work and what players are starting to emerge as great players. One of the particulars that dont always work that I am referring to is when we put Swick back to throw the ball 35-40 times a game may not be the answer with a young QB (although I hate to admit it Mich can do it this year). It looks for now that the D has made some well needed adjustments and the O-line has made progress for these last two games.

So what have we learned that Smith has just led the Bucks to a second strait win? And who should start at QB next week? I say who gives us the best chance to win should start. That would have to be Smith right now since he is fresh with confidence and has shown the ability to lead the team. It will be interesting to see how he does under real pressure.

Penguin-BUCK, please send me a PM if you'd like to continue posting in the Blog/Article system. It is open to anyone, but there are some rules/guidelines that we need to discuss before any of your submissing (what is that word  ? ... submissions) will be "featured". Thanks.
