What kind of car do you drive?

If you drive an expensive car you're probably a jerk, scientists say
By Rob Picheta, CNN

https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/26/world/expensive-car-drivers-study-scli-scn-intl/index.html

It's a Finnish study in Finland...

"I had noticed that the ones most likely to run a red light, not give way to pedestrians and generally drive recklessly and too fast were often the ones driving fast German cars," Helsinki University's Jan-Erik Lönnqvist said in a press release.

I have a very different view of this.
Most likely to run a red light: Muscle Cars, Miatas, old Eclipses (DSM era), and WRX STi
Least likely to stop for anyone: Luxury Trucks and SUVs; the mud-splattered one will stop, also first to help a car on the side of the road
Drive "too fast": Define "too fast". On a controlled access highway, there's no reason you can't go 100mph. Not everyone's car is engineered to the same level. Not everyone bothered to learn how to drive. A lot of people driving for 10 20 30 years... still brake in the middle of a turn. Even Camrys come with 300bhp these days... so, what's too fast for the Left Lane Prius is a nonissue for a lot of other vehicles.

Visited the Cleveland auto show this past week. It was rather disappointing as there didn't seem to be anything really new or interesting at the show. The had the new "mustang" electric SUV, but that was about it. Everything else seemed the standard vehicle you could find at the local dealership, besides stuff like the A-Team van or a Back to the Future car. The most interesting part were the classic cars they had, but those get shoved off in the side area.

You can get an Electric Mustang Minivan pretending to be an SUV.
This is how we kick off the 20s.
Where's the Pussification thread?

My older son, who really likes electric cars said it looked awful. Personally, it looks like any other small SUV to me (not a good thing to me), but it hurts my soul they have the Mustang name attached to it.

That’s my issues as well. Want to roll something like that off the line for making a dent in average MPG, that’s fine. Pick a different name plate tho.

So, I finally pulled the trigger. Have been in the market for a new ride for about a year and am patient. Knowing that spring / summer is the best time to unload the convertible I really started shopping at the beginning of the year.

I’ve owned new cars a few times but I had a really good experience when I got the S4... a year and a half old and around 6K miles when I got it (if I recall... it was really low). I was just patient and waited for the right car.

And it happened again. Was browsing a popular auto site / app (@Jaxbuck) and found a 2017 Audi S6 with 4800 miles. Dealer who has it was the dealer who leased it to the original owner who is a long term customer. The original owner is dual resident and this was his ‘US’ car. Has all the options I waned except the blackout grill and the sport rear differential. Price was less than what I’ve been saving for so I can do the APR stage 1 tune (Audi dealer out here is authorized and doesn’t hose warranty) which will give me 555 hp and roughly 580 ft/LBs torque.

Original owner did me a solid. Paid $30K in depreciation for that first 4800 miles.

Jumping on a plane tomorrow or Saturday to pick up in Memphis and drive home to Chicago.

Better stop and grab some groceries on your way home. My daughter says Chicago stores are empty....
