What running back(s) do we land in this class?

What running backs do we land in this class?

I think the more important question is, "What backs do we get, period?" We look good for Wells, but in the meantime Gwaltney has cooled on the Bucks, and all of our Ohio options have gone elsewhere for various reasons.

I'm hearing all kinds of names now, many of them new to me. I expect that coaches have certainly been paying attention to these "new" names better than us recruitniks have, but I still wonder why I haven't heard at least something about many of these guys up until now. I'd think I'd have at least known they were on the back burner. This makes me have doubts about the prospects of filling the spot reserved for Gwaltney, should he indeed choose to go elsewhere.

I know I'm sounding like one of those doom and gloom guys, but my point is based in reality. It's almost inevitable in the recruiting game that at least one important area will have something not go as expected, and I'm having a gut feeling that this year, RB might be one of those. Like I said, I feel real good about landing Wells, but there's a very strong possibility that Tressel doesn't land anyone other than him. Wells projects to be a very good player, but it's not enough right now. I don't even care if it's a big or small back, but I think this class needs two RBs just so we have enough warm bodies. I'm afraid we're going to get to the point where a RB gets a scholarship just to take up space. Here's hoping that Tressel and Hazell can turn our fortunes in the Gwaltney sweepstakes.

I'm not convinced we need a big back at all. We need someone with the vision to see the hole and hit it at full speed.

Those of you clamoring for a big back, were you just dying to see Lydell get 20 carries a game this year?

I am not sure anyone on this thread is, as you say "clamoring" for a big back. The facts are that the coaches have told a number of a RB recruits that tOSU will take one small back (likely MoW) and one big back (unknown). I thought that the purpose of this thread was to review different possibilities for that big back slot?

Considering the fact JT has told more than one recruit the staff wants a big back and a smaller back, as 86 pointed out, I don't see the problem with this thread. Just seems to coincide with what the head man is thinking.

Now that Miami seems to be out of the picture for Conredge Collins our chances just got better. I haven't seen film of Collington but he was playing great early in the year before the injury. Not sure if he's qualified though. I suppose Jayson White is a possibility but he seems like more of a FB type. Not sure if James Davis has rescheduled his Ohio State visit.

It's still surprising that Ohio State is having trouble landing a big back. You'd think kids would be beating down the door to play tailback at Ohio State. Given our current lack of depth at the position it's even more mindboggling.

Scratch Mike Ford off the list...maybe we aren't going to take a big back this year...maybe the staff is just extremely confident in their ability to get Beanie next year.

Maybe Alex Daniels is the big back, as others have suggested?

I agree, its insane.
We have two, count em TWO running backs on the roster next year.
We have NO running back commitments as of yet.
We are a team that Featurs the RB.
Why on earth wouldnt these kids be clammoring over this spot?????
