What should the punishment be for a play like this?

It's tough because while it looked like he should have seen that the Wisconsin player was down, I can see where in the heat of the moment you see a guy running up the field with the ball and only you standing between him and the endzone you might wanna make sure he was down.

In which case you tackle him, not hit him with a forearm shiver - which would have also resulted in targetting. It's a long stretch to claim innonence when whistles have gone off and the Wisconsin player is the only guy running - everyone else, including his LSU teammates have stopped playing.

I'd say if its his first "event" first league game, if he has a history though... sit him for 3 games. I have never seen a player returning a ball in the middle of the field with it raised above his head like that.... the guy knew what the story was, and even went to talk trash after the dirty hit.

Since he was ejected in the 4th quarter, does he have to sit for the 1st half of the next game, or is that only for targeting penalties?

I would say a 1-2 game suspension, on top of if he does have to sit out the 1st half of the next game.

Not only that, from the other camera, you can see that he has a wide and unobstructed window to the interception. He sees the DB go down and understands completely what is going on. He needs to sit for a game at least.

How about they should make it 1 game minimum but if there was injury, it should be for as long as the injured kid is out?

That is my biggest gripe with the LSU cheap shot. Easily could be a concussion and those are no small thing.

I didn't see Iowa and the USC kid going all Draymond Greene was bad but it (most likely) couldn't cause something as serious as the vicious shot to the head of an unprotected player.

I'm pretty sure it's an automatic suspension for first half next week, but not positive.

I agree it should be at least a full game and don't think it was an innocent mistake.

only issue is that next game is against Jacksonville St. so even if he sits that whole game, people will say somethin to the effect of "of course they'll suspend him for an FCS game, instead of one that matters"

so maybe he should also sit some of the Miss St game the following week as well.

I don't know. Jacksonville St might be better than Cowbell U this year.
