What we need to do to beat N.C. State

Let the cards fall...
"What can I say, it's luck" Andre Maddox (When asked about Ohio States ability to win close games)

"We have collapsable goalposts, we need to test them" Chuck "man tits" Amato

Here we go fellas, the first "big game" of the 2004 season. N.C. State is still tasting the sour loss of last season, and are looking for revenge. They say that we dodge the games in the south, they come out with a suspect "injury" of their star tailback two days before the game. I'm starting to feel the big game atmosphere surround this game. This is going to be a rock em, sock em, push his head in the mud after the play football game. This is what college football is all about. Did I mention that many are calling us an underdog, a role that we flourish in?

Here are my keys to winning this thing.

1) Keep Justin Zwick's jersey clean.

N.C. State has indicated that their major goal is to get pressure on Zwick this week. They are blessed with some fantastic talent along the defensive line, especially on the ends. Look for them to bring relentless pressure from all facets of the field, they will blitz, blitz, and then blitz some more. They will use the rowdy home field of theirs (3:30 kickoff, plenty of time for some "Southern Comfort") to rattle Zwick. Keep in mind this is Zwicks first start away from home. This is Zwicks first test in building his legacy as an OSU quarterback, how will he react? The O line has to step up this week.

2) Get pressure on Jay Davis

Where has our pass rush been so far this season? Where have the blitzes been from our LB's? N.C. State loves to run the quick hit offense, then open up the long ball. Mark Snyder has a reputation of being a blitzer, I'm wondering if we will see it this week. Davis is also starting his first big game in his career, if we can get heat on him, he'll make mistakes. There is nothing that will take the crowd out of a game more than relentless defense.

3) Tackle in space

I have also noticed that we have missed WAY too many tackles so far this season. We have to tackle in space this week, N.C. State will spread the field and run quick hitters.

4) Big plays on special teams
How about a blocked punt? How about a big return from Santonio? We have to punt well, we have to hit our field goals. These can be crucial in big games, especially when you play on the road. NO MISTAKES!!

5) Run the ball

This is beginning to be a questionable thing the last two seasons, you never know when it will show up. Brandon Joe returning will be a HUGE boost for our running game. Look for the off tackle plays, and the Iso's to open up this week. If we run for over 150 yards this week, we win the game.

6) Eliminate turnovers on offense, create a few on defense!!!!

We are -7 to date this season in the turnover category. We will probably get beat this week if we lose the turnover margin. Our defense hasn't created any turnover this season, hopefully they saved it for this week. We have to make big plays when the opportunity is there, and capitalize on N.C. State's mistakes.

7) Bring it!!!!!!!

We need to come out from the starting whistle and bust the Pack right in their chops. I want to see hard hitting, and gimpy N.C. State players wobbling off the field. I want to see McClendon hit hard and often (if he plays  ), and slowed down to the speed of a Derek Morris ("has anyone seen the special that they are running at White Castle?") by the 2nd quarter. I want the N.C. State faithful to go home with their tails between their legs after we beat the Packs' ass, physically and mentally. I want Chuck "captain floopy" Amato to cry once more when he addresses the media this week. Lastly, I want to show N.C. State that they are not Ohio St, and never will be!! Keep reaching!

I am totally jacked up for this game, its time to make a statement this week.
