What's Andy Katz's deal?

I don't think that it has anything to do with tOSU, or Thad Matta. The media is made up of mostly assholes that try to get the story, so they can take credit for breaking it. When Matta told everyone that he wasn't a candidate (to protect XU's recruiting interests). Everyone backed off of him, looking to break the story on who would be the next coach. Media-types get their panties in a knot, when they aren't given every last detail. That's why, even though JT is a fan favorite as coach, the media can't stand him. Too secretive. God forbid a coach actually respect the people that he works for, or coaches, enough to keep something from the almighty media.:tic:

A lot of he said she said type of stuff to me and a little bit of media types sticking up for what they believe is a slight to one of their own in a previous interview.

Having just gone through the process of deciding to leave a job, interviewing, and taking a new job, I can understand Matta's thought process regarding all of this. I don't see where he did anything wrong. Who knows maybe he wasn't a candidate intially in his own mind, but after thinking through things change his mind about it.

I can also understand the process that Geiger went through. If he did not establish criteria and interview those who he believed met that criteria including minority candidates, then the outcry against him would have come from other corners.

This type of reporting is where I have problems with the press....

Fuck Andy Katz. With all of that hearsay information, he doesn't know any better than anyone else how this all happened or in what order. He's just looking for another reason to hammer a big-time athletic program.

And speaking of "losing credibility", as he says, I'm sick of espn.com sloshing through the mud so they can write this kind of crap, exacerbating the problems even more than they already are.

Fuck Any Katz and fuck espn.com.

I agree with you and BuckeyeNation completely. I read his drivel this morning and my first thought was, "What the fuck is your problem here". He's just pissed because he didn't "break" the news. Typical pissing, whining and moaning by another of the mediots. Sometimes I wonder who I have the least use for.....reporters like Katz or politicians.............or could they both be the same???

Copied so that you don't have to give this fool web "hits":

Turkey of the Week: A T(h)ad Regional

By Scott Springer - Clear Channel, Cincinnati

This to Thad Matta your new basketball coach at "The" Ohio State University. Not for taking the job and leaving Xavier, but for how you did it.

To scold you for leaving would be hypocritical. Most of us given a bigger pot of gold would load up the U-Haul singing the theme song from the old "Jeffersons" TV show (Movin' On Up....).

But why say you're not a candidate when you are? Why say you haven't been in contact with anyone, when you have? You worked at an upstanding Jesuit university--does that commandment not count?

But hey, what's done is done and you did a good job Thad. Of course, none of the four NBA draft picks you coached at Xavier were yours--so you may want to send some of your new-found "Buckeye Bucks" off to Skip Prosser at Wake Forest.

Just one more thing and we'll let you slide Thad: Do us all a favor and have the guts to schedule Xavier. Better yet, I'm a University of Cincinnati grad and it seems OSU's been ducking the Bearcats ever since they lost a pair of national championships.

I thought the Buckeyes lost a pair of titles, but maybe it was another "pair".

Have the guts to schedule UC and all is forgiven Thad.

I work with reporters on a daily basis and I can assure you they are the most self-righteous a-holes you will ever come across. They think they are underpaid geniuses (because they can read and write) and resent anyone who earns more or accomplishes more with their life. They get their 'psychic salary' by seeing their names in print.

To paraphrase an old saw, "Those who can, do. Those who can't, but can type, become reporters."

Come down off your self-constructed pedestal, Andy. Try keepin' it real for a change.

The slow time of year in the sports world equals these hacks with no creative ability or thought process scraping the barrell to find a story. Andy Katz? Sorry, his name does not come up when I think of top flight basketball analysts. His father must own ESPN or something:wink2:

god damn.....that second guy is an even bigger prick. andy katz just shocks me though. ive never seen him like this before.....plus he is a national "analyst" whereas this douche bag for cinci is just a local guy trying to stir the pot (tibor?).

but andy katz....my god man. if you cant find a real story dont drag innocent people down with you. theres nothing wrong with him telling you he isnt a candidate if he doesnt want you to run off and tell the whole world about it.

what a baby.

Talk about a non-story. That's a few minutes of my life I'll never get back :ohwell:

Katz's timeline and 'investigative' reporting was pretty amusing though:

Matta also said that he didn't know he was going to Columbus for the interview until Tuesday night and that he didn't decide to take the job until 6 p.m. Wednesday. However, Stallings said Geiger called him at 3 p.m. and told him Matta already had accepted the job.

Eiser confirmed that Xavier athletic director Dawn Rogers didn't know Matta accepted the Ohio State job until 7 p.m. on Wednesday when she finally tracked down Matta. Matta said he kept Rogers aware of his status at every step.
Slow news day, there Andy?

Andy Katz is an asshole, and has always been an asshole. Reminds me of the guy from CNN who was checking on the Vegas odds for who Kerry would pick as VP, and missed the announcement of who actually got picked and got scooped. The second guy is just a self-righteous assclown who is pissed that Huggin's crew never gets the invite to come to Columbus. Whatever dude, you couldn't ever beat Xavier either, and I think he's just pissed we too their arch-rival's coach. He's so full of piss and vinegar to beat this guy that he doesn't even car ethat he switched schools.

I think that pretty much says it all, don't you?

Rugby, yeah I'm sure Clear Channel, Cincinnati was a dead giveaways to some vinegar in the news article, but I don't know Scott Springer from Willie Wilson  I would guess he's a clown with media credentials.

Anyway, I thought it was so overboard I had to share the link/article. Most reporters at least attempt to mask their personal feelings and post an article that COULD be construed as actual news or reporting. This was a simply a personal attack using his status as a reporter for the vehicle of his attack ... very lame. I actually laughed out loud when I read it the first time because it was so juvenile.
