Whats next for Notre Dame

I remember seeing a program that talked about Notre Dame and their following. Going back to 1910 through 1930 time period, alot of immigrants from eastern and southern Europe could identify with Notre Dame because of their catholicism. They did not identify with their local state or land grant college. Most of these immigrants and their children did not go to college but had a link to Notre Dame because of their faith and the fact that Notre Dame was a national school in their eyes.

When their grandchildren came along in the 50's and 60's, they had more an attachment to their local college than Notre Dame. In fact, as more of them went to college it was not Notre Dame but Enormous State University that they went. Their loyalty was now to EMU not Notre Dame. This exodus to EMU with the death of the older catholics has added to this decline with Notre Dame.

I expect this pattern to continue. My brothers and I all attended Ohio State and graduated. Our loyalty is to Ohio State and not Notre Dame. We are all good Italian catholics. I have seen this with other friends who happen to be catholic but not Notre Dame supporters.

With the lack of success at Notre Dame this has not help Notre Dame out within the catholic community. Within the catholic community, there is not the attachment to the catholic institutions that was there prior to Vatican II. The slide will continue.

Jax- You must be a glass half empty kind of a guy! Some may very well go over-board but with the success Weis has had why wouldn't the ND faithfull have a little hope? Geez ya cant blame a guy for dreaming! I am sure you all had visions of sugar plums dancing in your head when Tressel came aboard as well!
we didn't have quite the deep hole to dig out of that you guys have dug the past ten years. coop had one bad year and a couple of mediocre years. did your last senior class leaving have a 500 record. will your next one. you guys haven't won in a bowl game in over a decade. the guys you hope to recruit probably never heard of the 88 championship team.

this all comes from a guy who has tremendous respect for your program and works for a company that ND has maybe a 15 or 20 % stake in.

Domer- I am a realist and a realist is just an optimist that been around for a while.

You guys are up against it BIG TIME and letting a hot name NFL coordinator get OTJ training as your HC is a risky way to go about fixing the numerous problems ND faces.

Anyone heard from Buddy Ryan or Ray Rhodes lately?
